I have 2 old wooden recipe boxes that are basically gathering dust. I would like to reuse them, but am having problems figuring how to do so. I already have another box I use for recipes, so don't need that. Any ideas out there? Hope all of you had a safe and happy Christmas and New Years.

If you do crafts you can store small items in them. Or at a desk, paper cips and pens/pencils?

Ooh, I saw this idea for a Perpetual Calendar/Journal (http://marketplace.poppytalk.com/2013/1canoe2/desktop-perpetual-calendar/)on Pinterest.
All you would need is 3 x 5 index cards. You could make your own monthly tabs or buy them at a stationery or office supply store.
I thought it was very cool, but I don't have a nice old recipe box for it.

If you can't find another use for them try selling them on ebay.

You can use it as a gift box. Or, store something breakable in it when you're packing something small away.

My grandmother had one of those old makeup/toiletries cases that came with a set of luggage. I was going to throw it away, but now use it to store my small collectibles; it's sturdy, a bit padded and has a handle. And it's very retro.

I have a neat old wood recipe box that I couldn't part with. I keep mostly business cards in it but also have some quick notes on misc. things on 3X5 cards in there.

In the kitchen to hold tea bags or seasoning packets.
In the bathroom to hold q-tips or cotton balls.
On the desk to organize addresses, passwords, quick reference (make your own divider tabs out of card stock and labels), or hold a few office supplies, stamps, staple remover, tape, pens.
In the sewing room to hold bits and pieces, buttons that come with new clothes. Mini mending kit.
In the laundry to hold a few clothes pins, stain stick, etc.
In the living room if the top bends back or is removable, a good place to corral the remotes, or collect some old photos to flip through (I collect old photos of women and their laundry lines - really hard to find, I don't think they wanted to waste film on that kind of early image). Could also tuck a deck of cards and dice, small pad of paper and pencil to have in easy reach for games.
In the bedroom, on the dresser holding jewelry. (I have various old wood boxes I've collected displayed and hid my jewelry.
