...and next week I'll disappear from these boards for a while again, once classes resume.

I'm excited about my new plan... I started taking a couple of classes at the community college in the fall, not exactly sure where it would lead, but once I got into the lab with a microscope the answers came. I'm going to continue at the comm. college until I complete enough course work to apply for a PhD program in one of several life science programs (I have a M.S. in engineering, so I don't need to get another B.S. - I just need to take the classes I never had to switch backgrounds). And then, for a while, being a PhD student & research assistant will be my job. I think I'll probably finish about the time my daughter goes to college... but this time, unlike my first time through higher ed, I'm in no hurry to finish. I still want to be very present for DD and have a lot to manage in our household, so I'm about a half-time student currently.

I've thought about going back to school off and on - mostly on - for a long time, but wasn't very interested in continuing my previous field and couldn't see a path to easily changing fields, in an affordable way. The community college system is a lot different than it was 20 years ago - far more offerings, for one. And the tuition is a screaming deal compared to our state university.

I know a couple others here have also recently gone back to school. Hope things are going well for you, too!

Coolio, Rosemary! How great to be passionate about a career that also has serious money-making potential, too! (Wish I had one...!)
