In NV is offering teachers personal loans to finance the purchase of school supplies. I am not kidding.

No surprise, sadly...I was a teacher in Nevada and it was common for local businesses to do "drives" to get people to buy school supplies for classrooms.

My wife has dealt with this issue for the past several years. In her elementary school, many classroom supplies are budgeted out of the annual supply fees which are paid by the parents. When those fees are waived due to economic hardship or simply not paid, the money has to come from somewhere, most often the teacher's pockets. Otherwise, they do without.

You know the old bumper sticker:

"It will be a great day when schools have everything they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy another bomber."

Wow, enticing teachers to go into debt to purchase things that should be supplied to them.. Ridiculous.

+1 Haven't thought of that for years, but unfortunately it's still so true.

Redfox, that is so odd. You would think with Las Vegas, gambling money could supply all the schools with school supplies.
