View Full Version : Google+ eliminating the account
I like Google mail but want the eliminate the Google+ emails that are coming to my box. I read where I am not the only one getting annoyed so wondered if someone here could advise how to clean out the Google+ option please. Remember that I am technologically challenged or a tech-newbie.
TIA
Found the perfect site with the language for my understanding so sharing if others want to opt out as well.

I blew away my entire Google+ account yesterday. I thought you were required to have one with a Google account, but I read something yesterday that outlined how to just blow away the Google+ stuff.

How did you do this?
I think I followed the directions on this page, under "Delete my Google+ profile".

Open Google+. Place your cursor in the top left corner for the Google+ main menu.
Click Settings.
At the bottom of the screen, find the heading Disable Google+. Under the heading, at the end of the phrase "Delete your entire Google profile here", click "here".

My phone came loaded with all this Google+ stuff too. My photos automatically go online. I really don't know if other people can see them there or not. The whole thing is very confusing and Google doesn't seem to be handling it well.

I don't have gmail (how many email addresses does one need?) and was and still am PO'd when Scroogle+ was shoved down my Youtube account and they hid the YouTube inbox. I am NOT on social media, and did change all the preferences (it set up the plus account by my long used Youtube name) to the privatest setting that was offered. (if you can call it privacy) Then left one comment in the about me section, about how stupid of an idea I believe that to be.
I don't really understand why these services would offer anything to us for free. We can ignore ads, so that's not even worth anything to anyone.
That's what's really stupid, imho: That we can do anything (including this forum) without paying for it. There's got to be house of cards logic justifying that. Either that or just plain generosity.
So when one of these companies does something to force us to actually provide to them something of value in return for the service they give us (like forcing us to use G+ if we want to have our own YouTube page) it makes perfect sense.

What we post about our lives and ourselves is data that is stored for advertisers, bots, the NSA, etc. to do what they will with it forever -- "digital permanence", if you will.

Well it's been suggested the gift model is more widely sucessful in software than anything else, so yes people do do it for the love of it, and give it freely. And in fact free software tracks you less than many of the paid stuff. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? Whole free and non-tracking social networking has been done (it's just not widely used).
But sure not everyone is going to do it for free. On the other hand it's not as if paying for something is some kind of guarantee our data won't be given away either. If that was the case the NSA should probably be paying everyone's cell phone bill at this point, since individuals PAY real federal reserve dollars to have cell phone plans, and all their data still goes to the NSA.
But as for smarmy corrupt corportations I'd rather have nothing to do with it. I'd rather pay money (yes money!) to deal with companies that aren't sleezeballs giving my data to advertisers (i'd rather and what's more I DO). That more likely to mean non-U.S. companies of course and so they will get my business. I don't have a google plus account and I think at this point nothing could make me.
