Is it possible? Say, in northern Indiana.

I don't know CathyA. We're in Piedmont MD zone 6 and my friend grows them wonderfully, we did not have much success. Her soil is much more alkaline than ours. She used Bureaugard slips, I used Georgia Jet, so that might have made a difference, too. They like WARM soil.

We have a number of farmers who grow sweet potatoes in southern Ontario in zone 5b. I would think that, in any zone in question, if you know the temp range and the hours of sunlight available which is as important, you would have a good idea of what could be grown and the varieties that do best.

We grew them in Northern Lower MI. Be sure to order slips for varieties designed for colder climates, and you will be ok. We also used black plastic mulch between the rows to both keep the weeds down and the soil temps up.

Am I north in St. Louis?

DH grew them this year. They were not very good. I pitched them into compost, didn't eat them. They were light in color and not tasty.
