A basic raw 1/2 cup of red tomatoes has 26% USRDA of Vit C, 2% of Iron, according to http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2682/2
My jars of Newman's Own Sockarooni Spag Sauce says 1/2 cup contains 0% Vit C? 8% Iron? I know US Nutrition labels are allowed to be off by quite a bit but maybe I'm missing something in the process of making spag sauce that they and the peppers would lose ALL of their Vit C value?
Ingredients on label: Tomato Puree (Water, tomato paste, citric acid) Diced tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, mushrooms, sugar, soybean oil, salt, onions, evo, spices, garlic.
So is this an error on the label or is there really no Vit C left in tomatoes after they are canned?
