View Full Version : Snowden has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize.
Apparently 2 Norwegian legislators said they felt his actions brought attention to the NSA and changes made will ultimately make the world a more stable place.
It seems a little premature to me.

So, Snowden is nominated for exposing the NSA's actions and the President who actively supports the NSA's efforts was not only nominated, but received one. What a crazy world!

Just being nominated does not a winner make. Check out the list of nominees--the list is kept sealed for 50 years, so these are pre-1954 nominations: http://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/database.html
Perhaps this would be a good year for the Peace Prize to go unawarded.

Gee.. there have to be good people who deserve this prize! Thich Nhat Hanh was nominated by MLK decades ago, and he hasn't won his yet. There are leaders of organizations like Doctors without Borders, and what about Malala Yousafzai or even Pope Francis?
Are we so bad off as a global community that we can't summon up ONE person who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize?

Maybe the NSA nominated him, in hopes that he would hop on a plane to collect the check.:laff:
Yes, it is premature; the Snowden Case has not yet been resolved, and we just don't know all the facts. Let the situation play out-everyone can more accurately judge his actions and their consequences from a historical perspective. The nomination is certainly controversial, and the Nobel Prize should maintain some semblance of prestige and dignity. If the recipients are not generally thought of as truly contributing to world peace, then it taints the credibility of the award; some worthy people might even refuse it in the future if it has a stigma attached to it. It is still remembered that Hitler was once Time Magazines "Man Of The Year".
Putin was nominated as well...

And heck, Obama won the darned thing just for showing up, though he now seems bent on leading us into war with Russia.
Speaking of which, who is ready for that one? Should be fun!
