View Full Version : Orange Juice.........Yum (not).

Now that piece has ruined orange juice for me.
Sigh.
As some of the posted comments indicated, how can you expect to have fresh OJ year-round if oranges are not preserved and restored in flavour? This process is not unexpected at all. If you want fresher, eat whole fruit. If you want juice outside the harvest period, expect that preservation/processing techniques will have been employed.
Sorry to say but this is a non-newsworthy story.
That said, I almost never drink OJ but prefer the whole fruit.

With Valencias in the summer and Navels in the winter there's the potential for two seasons (I wonder if they both grow in Florida like they do in California). Orange juice also freezes well (though theres probably some serious vitamin loss, at least it's all the natural product still).

I think it's unexpected, given my understanding of how flavorings work. I think it's processing in the same way GMOs are breeding (they aren't, fish genes in plants would never arise by breeding). It should be disclosed on the label. Preservation is: you can foods, you preserve, you add sugar to preserve perhaps, it alters the flavor by making things sweeter (we all intuitively know this, we grew up wtih sugar). But flavorings are actually much more deceptive than that. A drop of flavoring can ENTIRELY alter the flavor of something. A drop of the right flavorings could probably make beef taste like chocolate chip cookies.
Why I believe this. Reading this article:
Why McDonald's Fries Taste So Good:
http://rense.com/general7/whyy.htm
I avoid all natural flavorings since reading that :|(. If that article is right it's a deep fooling of the senses (taste buds) that were never evolved to process that level of deception. So the orange juice could actually taste like sewer water and a few drops of the flavoring and it tastes like OJ again. Scary ...
If you don't grow it yourself or know the guy who does its probably manipulated in unappealing, unhealthy or unsustainable ways. No matter what we're talking about I believe it is now that simple.
Well poo. I just bought some of that brand because it was on sale......for my vodka tonight.
We stopped drinking all processed OJ at least ten years ago. It amazes me that it is still so popular with all the news about flavorings and the sugar content. I can buy a 25# bag of Texas juice oranges (or grapefruit) for a couple of bucks so that's our source.

Hey Float On......maybe the vodka will make everything alright. (at least in your mind). :)
