View Full Version : Frugal Fatigue
Just read this article over at Dollar Stretcher and enjoyed it. This time of the year especially, I start to get fatigued with my long-term goals. Enjoy!

Good article!!
I feel like I have frugal fatigue. I think it is because we have we have a lot of cash right now, as we are deciding on retirement investments. I just want to pay someone to paint the house instead of doing it myself. Obviously the money won't last forever if I start spending a lot. I'm a little overwhelmed with the amount of DIY in my life.
I used to read the Dollar Stretcher regularly and got away from it so was glad to be reminded. Thanks.
Editted to add: maybe we get frugal fatigue when we get away from our support systems that reinforce our accomplishments since the world at large does not do so.
I have been in the habit of being frugal for so long that I have recently found myself in a pleasant quandary.
A well-off friend gave me a $150 gift card for Amazon. I have no idea what to buy. Last time he did this, I purchased a new printer for my business when my old one was croaking. I'll probably wait for a similar need to arise.
But, like the Frugal Fatigue article states: sometimes we need a treat!
So I'm enjoying fantasizing about treats - especially the food kind since I live on an island with only 2 small food stores. Perhaps I'll order online - a Honey Baked Ham for Easter and a few pounds of fresh figs this summer.
Ummmmm.
The rest will go to real needs like toner, etc.
Yes! I go through F.F. from time to time. My cure is to splurge. Now before you take me to task, here's how I splurge. In fact, this morning I did a splurge. I went to my very favorite local thrift store and purchased:
--a four piece cotton coordinates outfit--slacks, shell, vest and long sleeve jacket...very cute, mix and match
--one soft mock turtleneck top in one of my favorite colors
--one pair unworn Naturalizer pair of Gravity slip-on shoes, quite comfy
Total cost of splurge? $6.00 plus tax. See why this is my favorite thrift store?
My F.F. has been cured now.
