OMG OMG!
I am watching Season 1 a second time at the public library. They are showing one episode each week and they have a speaker on each topic. I was SO EXCITED to have the head of our city's film festival say this: the best film entertainment today is in tv!
At this talk after the showing he talked about color values, what that means (dark low light/few colors relates a sort of noir feel) and the effect of various directors on each episode.
This verifies exactly wheat I've been saying for the past 12 months: cable episodic drama is the cream de la cream, we've not seen anything like it before.

Exactly, IL, to the color values and the production values and the cutting edge nature of the show!
And Kevin Spacey is AWESOME!
I just discovered this show and I'm watching the first season and love it!!
Can't wait. Think we'll watch Season 1 again first though.

They released the entire season at once, I think. I won't be getting much sleep tonight.
Have you seen the original? See why you should:

Ian Richardson is totally awesome. I had a huge crush on him after I saw him in London's West End in 1972 and then in the unbelievable RSC production of Richard II in 1973 (that's what a nerd I am!).. Got to meet him in person, and he was as kind and lovely as his Urquhart is diabolical.
House of Cards only came to the US because of the success that Ian Richardson made of it in the UK.

I tried it and don't think I finished it, it was unmemorable. I watch most any drama by UK tv but for the mysteries and some of the war serials.

I don't have cable either. Phoenix Public Library has House of Cards, both the US version and the UK version. Try it! Your Library also has Mad Men in all season, Season Six just came up. I don't know if that's the last season on dvd, but I think it is.

I will give this a try next time I am over that way - I've heard good things about House of Cards and sure would be interested to watch it. Rob
Just watched the first episode of Season 2. I think we're in for a night of binge watching because I might not be able to stop until there is no more!!!
I loved Season 1.
Us too. Then we canceled our Netflix account, because everything else they offer is junk. What to do!

wait, like I do for most things. Then use the Library's dvd.
I will say that for House of Card I used my Netflix dvd subscription. I agree that their offerings of streaming is pretty limited.

Just completed episode 1 of season 2. I'd forgotten what a ruthless bastard Frank Underwood could be.Now I'm totally wanting to see House of Cards based on your comment here. I remember what drove me to be interested in Mad Men was online comments about Joan Holloway. I will have to find out just how ruthless this Frank Underwood character is - I'm guessing he plays the President? Rob

Nope, during season one, he's the Democratic Majority Whip in the House of Representatives. I'll leave his position at that for those who plan to watch the entire series.

I didn't enjoy the second season nearly as much as the first. Did a lot of of eye rolling the last few episodes.
Bit over-the-top for the type of drama it is supposed to be, methinks.

I absolutely loved the UK original series, but haven't watched the US copy.
