I recently went off Clonazepam, a drug used for sleep. I'd been on it for years an it was hard to get off of. I did it by substituting Melatonin, which works much better. It was hard for about a month, but now I dream frequently again and can remember and think more clearly. Plus good for prescription budget.

Good for you! That's a huge process, and I congratulate you on your tenacity. Sleeping well is so important, and can be harder as we age. Both my DH & I rely on melatonin. Enjoy your dreams!

That's great! I take Clonazepam for a seizure disorder, and rarely remember my dreams. (But in my case, it's the only choice I have.)

Melatonin works like a charm for me as well. I have one day a week when I exercise very very hard and have so much fatigue afterwards it's hard to sleep that night. Melatonin does the job.

I currently take Lunesta for sleep but would like to switch to melatonin. Could you tell me what dose find effective?

Florence, I read up on it a lot on the web and the dosage is really important--too much causes problems. I went up to 6 mg, the highest anyone seems to recommend and had weird problems so am now down to 3 steadily, an applied kinesiologist having tested me and said that was the right dose. I still wake up during the night some nights (sleep in the room with another person and 5 animals is part of it) but it's usually not a big deal and I go back to sleep--no sharp edges to the experience. Plus it helps me go to sleep initially, which I didn't think I could do without the Clonazepam.

I had a horrible time coming off Ambien. I will give melatonin a try. Thank you.

I have relied on Melatonin for a number of years. Works most of the time for me.
