okay---just what it says. the lirrarian in question is dee-vorced, cause her kids are grown and therefore, why would she even NEED a husband. Good Question, right? But yeah---school is about 9 months out of the year, so there's that. Part-time work, right? 60k and Bennies. Yup. It's scandalous. But--you're right---nobody asked my permission.

okay---the small-town(nowhere)school lirrrrarrian was a native of the town; didn't know any better---and liked it, i guess. left town just long enough to get her priceless degree. she was the daughter of the local guy who made a careeer out of being a pump-jockey. That's a fact. Even bore a resemblance to ol' Billah Cahtah! Only time he ever left town for a life elsewhere was the U.S. Army----two tours in 'nam. But yeah---said that little bitty nowhereville was the best place he ever L:IVED. Compared to 'nam, I guess. Ha. But yeah-----her pay is ree-dick--you-lous. absolutely worth no more than 15k, as a "paraprofessional". Yup. I'd post a photo of her smirky, smarmy nowhereville face, but that would be over-the-top. Even for mee.
I'd not want to be a recent graduate in library sciences since hard copy has been eclipsed by digital. I know of two people who worked in technical libraries who lots their jobs when the libraries were phased out. Judging from the local public libraries, I suspect a lot of people herding of the homeless who go in for the air conditioning, heat, or to smoke meth in the bathrooms. I use some of their digital services, but haven't been inside a brick and mortar for a long time. I noticed they loan out basic tools, which is sort of nice. It's a sad state.
I would be a little lost without the libraries here and go at least every two weeks to pick up books on hold and check the new book section. Only the downtown one is a homeless magnet.
okay----update on my nearby lirrrarrrry. it was a grocery store, built in 1977. then, in about 1993, it became a furniture store, where i bought a repoed sofa before the company went bankrupt, about 1991. well,(i'm getting there)the voters voted ta acquire the vacant groc/furniture store for a NEW northside lirrraberry. Not that there was anything wrong with the OLD one--it was built in 1970, and COMPLETELY remodeled and then SOLD for more than the remodel job cost. Ha. So, anyway---the new lirrarerery had a "Transportation Motif" for the first decade it was open; they had a Bianchi Road Bike on the wall, and displayed some cars in the entryway. But that's all gone, now. They have a LOT of computer stations there, and a nice photocopying setup---that's why i ue it. Also, they have a young fella with deep dark sunglasses and a GUN, to keep an eye on people who come in and fall asleep. But yeah---I like that lirrrarry. Then, there's the old downtown lirrriry that i assume is a carnegie-era building, and it underwent another remodel job. So, yeah---with that and the new schools and new jail---s'why my prop taxes are way, way, up. Yup.
I actually joined the library's summer reading program and I'm loving it! It has been perfect to motivate me to start reading again. Plus visiting the library is a treat for me - getting out of the house, seeing what's new, etc. I haven't really noticed any homeless issues. May be one or two folks, but no issues with anyone there while I've been.
Our town’s new library, opened the year we moved here permenantly, flooded last May and has been closed for repairs.
they are running some programs out of local churches and the VFW hall.
Happystuff: Our library is having a summer reading contest, and I am participating since I read a lot anyway. I think there is a drawing for a restaurant gift certificate at the end of August.
We are in the middle of suburbia, so I've never seen homeless people in the library, although apparently there is a small homeless encampment along the rail trail.
