Yes, that's the one. I thought it was delightful.

Great! Thanks Jane and rosa!
I have it checked out, but I'm still working my way through The Truth in Small Doses, which is as engaging as it is depressing.
Van Pelt is on my list to read.
Well I just finished Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurty. It came highly recommended, and I was told that I would enjoy it even if I disliked Westerns, and that turned out to be true. It was an excellent read, and quite a commitment at 858 pages. BUT...
At about page 400, I was thinking I would like to see a map of the area where the story takes place. I turned to the front of the book to see if I had overlooked a map, and unfortunately I had not. However, I noticed that there was a brief preface, which I had overlooked, so I went ahead and read it. Big mistake - that goddamned preface contained major plot spoilers!
So I highly recommend Lonesome Dove, but warning, warning, danger, danger, don't read the preface until you are done with the book! There should be a warning label on the cover or something.
The week before last I was in LA for work. It was a noteworthy trip because it’s the first time I’ve ever needed an umbrella in LA and also because it was the first time I’ve seen more than a small trickle of water in any of those cement ‘rivers’ that are all over the city. They were all nearly full.*. So now I’m reading “Rivers in the Desert: William Mulholland and the inventing of Los Angeles.” which tells the history of how LA got enough water to support so many people.
*I suppose it was also noteworthy because the glass lobby ceiling of the Westin Bonaventure, where I was staying, leaks like a sieve. They had giant trash cans scattered throughout to catch all the water.
I snapped a pic of one of the canals as I was leaving. Most of the time they just serve as places for car chase scenes in movies.

Children's book Amos Fortune Free Man. Hoping to get in to see the author's house as it is supposed to be open one TBD day this month before it turns into a caretaker's residence.
"Origin - A Genetic History of the Americas" by Raff. A tracing of the first humans in the Americas and their origins from genetic evidence. Easier reading than it sounds.
