Finishing a frugal...
I posted several days ago about scoring a Sunbeam Mixmaster. The only "gotcha" was that the only beaters which came with it were dough hooks and it came with only one of the two bowls it's supposed to have. It looked like we'd need to hit some vintage store or ebay for at least the beaters, but it struck me to go back to the thrift store and see if somehow the missing pieces found their way into other parts of the store. Sure enough!
For about $6 -- a little more than the cost of shipping a set of beaters from ebay -- I completed the set. Well, almost. Turns out the bowl I bought today -- even though it's the same size as the one that came with the mixer when I bought it -- is considered the "small" bowl. The "large" bowl must be ginormous. So tomorrow or Wednesday I'll go back to see if there is a truly smaller bowl which will fit. Having two larger bowls won't hurt. But a cup of whipping cream is going to look awfully lonely in one of these.

I made an amazing soup yesterday from garden veggies. It wasn't fast, but it only cost me a bit of beef base, seasonings, and a package of stew meat. We'll eat it for at least three suppers, maybe four. I put in tomatoes (had to peel them, that was a pain but they are sooooo good), kale, carrots, and banana peppers. Oh yeah, and some fusilli noodles. Mmmmmmmmm!

We were in a town a few towns away and happened across a movie theater that had $5.25 first run movies. Saw "the butler." Loved it and a great treat to see in the theater.
A friend of mine embroidered some blocks and I put them together into a quilt. She was very thankful and gave mw a gift certificate of farmers market dollars. What a great gift. thank goodness we are so frugal, my son is set to be furloughed from the government and because we save so carefully we can help him if need be. He has two small children and lives below his means but it will be hard if he does not get back soon. Just more justification why we are so frugal.
