It's raining, it's pouring!
You CAN make steel cut oats in a rice cooker! In my anti-stuff zeal over the years, I had dismissed the very idea of a rice cooker as just one more thing to clutter up the kitchen counters, but since my house mate has one, I can totally see how awesomely useful this little appliance can be for not very much money :) When the day comes that he moves out, I am getting one of my own, for sure!
I hate cooking but I love my rice cooker. Not only can I cook rice without it getting mushy, but I chop up a potato and put it in liquid in the bottom part and then put a frozen salmon or tilapia fillet with some chopped up vegetables on top, turn on the rice cooker for 40 minutes and everything comes out perfectly. I've even made "boiled" eggs by steaming them in the steamer tray. There is practically nothing you can't make in those things. :)
It sounds faster than a crock pot, so beneficial for quicker meals.
I used my rice cooker a lot when I had it. I steamed veggies nearly every day. Now I have an Instant Pot I use that every day.
Electric blankets are so cozy.
Raked up all the leaves onto the lawn and ran the mower over them to mulch. 12 barrels of oak leaves, and they all just kind of disappeared, shredding down and creating new soil.
My first year with a true autumn...this was an extremely satisfying activity.
Clean sidewalk, driveway, and my lawn is put to bed for the winter.
Snow! 8-10" and still falling.
It's been a long time since my last snowstorm - so beautiful :)
Went to the BEST ever cookie exchange. Will get copies of the cookie recipes later but they ALL were wonderful (which is not always the case). DH wants cookies and I have no desire to make umpteen kinds so this was wonderful. Enough for the two of us for quite a while. WIN!!
The power went out (without a puff of wind)--boo! My electric utility phone app told me how many households were affected and the approximate duration of the outage. They fixed it way short of the projected time--yay!
My year of using a cash-back reward credit card offered by my credit union last year just paid off - because I am diligent about NEVER carrying a credit card balance, I just got $103.77 deposited back into my savings account! I have to say, it was a big adjustment to get used to paying for things with plastic. I am such a cash person, but once I got over the fear that I would somehow overspend, I haven't looked back. The only thing I make a point of paying cash for is gas for the car because it is cheaper per gallon that way. The only exception is when I am out traveling, it's a credit card all the way, baby!
The first time in weeks and weeks that I actually had energy after I got off from the early shift at work! It also helps that it feels like spring here in southeastern lower Michigan :)
Downton Abbey final season has started!
My puppy has gone two whole days without an accident!!
Someone who owed me quite a lot of money I'd basically written off as gone just mailed me a big check, almost entirely paying me back after I'd told them not to worry, take care of yourself etc. I'm astonished, really pleased, and impressed and refreshed that this person kept their end of the bargain even though I know they've been through some struggles and could easily have "forgotten" about it permanently. Thank you so much, MH!
Sill loving my Vivoactive watch!
I attended a party celebrating four coworkers retirement. It was nice to reflect on how things have changed in my profession over the last five years since my retirement. I came away refreshed and really happy for them that they made it. We took a few seconds to remember those we knew and worked with who sacrificed their lives before making it to retirement. We left part of ourselves behind. Some left all of themselves. I am thankful for the gift of life.
A hand crank shredder, arrived yesterday off eBay, so far perfect exactly what I wanted.
A flurry of bluebirds exploring the nesting box! They make me giggle.
It's a drizzly day in the Northwest and I am going for a walk, going to use a g. certificate for a vegan lunch, and then going to a free Wellness Fair. How could life get any better? (well, I guess somone could make my bed, that would be nice)
Finally coming into our more normal low 70s temps tomorrow. Was raining and in the low 60s with some frosty mornings for many days here, and that's a cold winter for Arizona blood!
On Star tracker on my car. I lend my car to my son once month for his cross state drive. It is a really neat feature that I can hit track and see where my car is and then joke with him that Mom is forever over your shoulder;) I don't need to it is just fun.
It's been a great month for my little art business! The checks from the December sales have all come in and Taliswoman@SiouxStudio is about to break $1000 for the month!!!!!
good for you!
The plumber I called after looking for reviews on Yelp showed up within an hour, did a perfect job and didn't overcharge me.
Last time I had a "plumber" in, in Bisbee, someone the tenant insisted was great (probably because he gave her a blow discount for recommending him), he went under the house and cut the wrong pipe, he then tried to blow a clog out of the other pipe with his mouth because he forgot his compressor, he cut a gigantic hole in my shower wall and then replaced my brand new bath tap with a chrome disk the size of a dinner plate, and after six hours, when it turned out it was the mixer I was concerned with in the first place that was the problem, not the pipe or the faucet, wound up cutting out the back wall of my closet and severing two studs in a support wall of my house in the process. And then tried to charge me nearly $1000. I was apoplectic for months, and have refused to call a plumber in eight years.
And then today ... this went as smooth as silk. So Nice, Thank You Donnie and Dan!
I drove my daughter to the IKEA Store to pick up a dresser for her apartment. The closest store is 100 miles away. I stopped at a gas station and got 20 cents per gal for getting a car wash. So I got a full tank for $22 and the cashier gave me a free car wash coupon for another time. And I won the 50/50 at the pot luck dinner I attended tonight. All in all,a great day.
Went to the Musical Instrument Museum, www.mim.org Best $20 I've spent in forever. Absolutely spectacular one of a kind global musical instrument museum. Paid extra to see the Stradivarius exhibit, just perfect.
If you're ever in the Phoenix area it's definitely worth a trip.
I went to a great potluck last night and someone sent me home with some spaghetti squash chow mein. Making a great lunch right now.
Sensi Thermostat, Excellent Review here, Love it! The phone app is worth every penny. The 1-1.5 degree range is amazing.
Yay, the Boy Scouts are doing a food drive and it's very convenient. They've tied plastic grocery bags to front doors with a note card inside about their project and also the types of canned goods that are most wanted.
I had about 8 cans in the pantry that are still fresh and will be now going to the food bank with very little effort from me.
Good going, Boy Scouts!
I remember my oldest sons Eagle Award ceremony. I was part of it. I worked with him all the way through scouts. This is an organization that does a lot of good. He is a good kid. I call him kid...he will be 30 this year. Tomorrow we are going to run some errands together and we will have lunch. I am a lucky man.
My friend in the city finally found some soy curls in Canada. Yay.
Okay, had to look up what the heck "soy curls" are. So they are a meat substitute?
They sell them on Amazon, but seem pretty expensive.
Almost $12.00 per pound?
had a chip repaired in my windshield a couple of years ago and it started to crack last week. I think from being parked outside during ice and snow.
Started with a 3 inch crack which is repairable and free with Allstate Ins. The day before the mobile unit was scheduled to come, I went outside for lunch and the 3 inch crack was over a foot long. That means I had to pay $278. Not happy and if I had been just a little quicker to report and schedule I would still have my $278.
Live and learn.
At Westminster kennel club show, the bulldog beat the poodle.
yay! The Bulldog NEVER beats the poodle in group!
I missed that, shoot, that is Buddy's favorite show. He goes nuts over dogs on tv, he will whine, bark and try to play with the dogs on tv for the entire Dog Show if you let him. His owner was elderly and watched tv a ton. When it is on, he goes and sits politely in front of it and watches for "puppies" even though it could be hours before a dog crosses the screen. No reaction to any other animal. I tivo dog shows for him, lol.
