I guess "propagandist" is your way of saying "anyone who doesn't agree with me." Tucker Carlson was an actual propagandist, parroting Russian talking points.
Rachel Maddow is indeed a political commentator, meaning she's allowed to express her opinion. She's the farthest thing from a bomb-throwing radical, describing herself thus: "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican Party platform."(Wikipedia) She's also an historian, an author, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (politics) degree as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford. I have a great deal of respect for her.
I suppose if the end result of her presentation is your representation of Republicans as Nazis, and you can't describe or give examples of how or why she brought you to that conclusion, my description of her as a propagandist feeding existing biases is probably right on point.
I may decide to devote 45 minutes of my time listening to her presentation at some point to analyze her technique, but not today, you've already provided the spoiler. If or when I do watch it I'll let you know so that we can discuss.
Alan, There is no probably if you don't watch it. Only then can you make any assumption or assertion. YLMV
Okay---Big Degrees---like Mad Cow has, mean only one thing--she/he/it has excelled at parroting the Groupthink dogma of the illiberals in Academia. End of story. Game Over. Case closed. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.
I purposely did not read any of the other responses before writing this. I voted for Trump the first two times. Will not ever vote for him again. While I like many
of his ideas. Morally, he is a train wreck. He is a bully. His child like name calling, belittling, bullying etc., is embarrassing. I am not sure DeSantis is much better. *sigh*
A thin skinned, petty, vindictive bully is better suited to be president? I guess you like to set the bar low.
I believe, but what does DeSantis bring to any sort of policy table? Pro-life, some sorts of cancel culture on the LGBT community, probably tows the GOP platform on some form of smaller government? Climate change, the war in Ukraine, infrastructure, taxes? I suppose it will all come out in the days to come, but is he that much different than Trump on policy, obnoxious, criminal, volitile personality aside?
Desantis governs one of the largest states in our nation. Successfully. He made some choices during Covid that served the state well.
I don’t think stage 2 of the Disney fight is sensible, though.
Of course he isn’t going to match your policy preferences about climate change and etc. It isn’t about policy for me, it is about him being an experienced public servant, experienced in serving the public and not putting himself first.
Out of curiosity I googled Rachel and the Dunham report. Without any long examination, she does have a several minute talk calling it a 6 million dollar waste of tax payer money without any new evidence. It's so much ancient history now it's not of much interest to me, but it really shouldn't matter too much to Trump supporters either way. Any crimes he has or hasn't committed are pretty much water off a duck's back. A politically motivated witch hunt, as he would say. A commentary that probably can go both ways.
Just out of curiosity, did she mention that the FBI knew the Steele Dossier, which was the basis of the entire Russian Collusion narrative, was a hoax perpetrated by partisans trying to hurt a Presidential candidate? Did she mention that the CIA briefed the Obama White House on its true purpose in 2016, well before Obama himself used it to smear that candidate prior to the November election? Did she mention that even though the FBI knew there was nothing to it, they still used it as a basis to obtain FISA warrants against people known to be within the candidates circle of influence? Or that officials within the FBI, including James Comey knew the info was garbage but still continuously leaked misleading information referencing their investigation of the matter, even though they weren't actually investigating the matter? Did she mention that Adam Schiff almost certainly knew there was nothing to allegations even though he spent a year or two holding high visibility congressional investigations designed to influence sentiment against a duly elected President while telling us daily that he had seen the evidence and we should just trust him, it's real? Did she mention that she was one of the leading media voices that spent at least 2 years parroting the administrative state's talking points like a loyal propagandist should? And then did she apologize for her role in advancing that politically motivated mis-information?
I'm betting she didn't. But, since that's all just old news we should probably forget all about it and move on to what I now hear is her latest hot take, Republicans are Nazis! (which must be true cause I read it here and have been repeatedly encouraged to watch her presentation so that I can know the truth too). She can probably string that out till the next election.
The investigation was under way in the summer, the Steele dossier didn't show up until the fall. This is per the Durham report. Papadopulous had already been bragging to an Australian diplomat about his Russian connections before the dossier surfaced.Quote:

None of the below. What she said was that there was no new evidence and nothing we didn't already know. I'm no fan of Rachel and it's the most I've listened to her. However, contrary to you earlier statement, she did mention it on the air. I really am not motivated to fact check what Alan said and what she said. Like I mentioned, both sides play the politically motivated witch hunt game. There are bigger fish to fry on Trump and his election and climate change lies among others in the courts now. It would be interesting to fact check Rachel vs. her conservative counter parts like Hannity, Breitbart, and Tucker to see who has the longest nose.
Speaking of witch hunts, I wonder what Jim Jordan is up to. He seems to have backed off on his Fauci investigations but is still hot on Hunter. Remember the Kennedy "expose" on Fauci and vaccines? Another one of those things that just isn't that important now.
Actually he has been putting himself and his anti"woke" propaganda ahead of the state needs. First, he has been on a book tour, coincidentally in the early primary states positioning himself for a run against Trump. the law said that a governor is term limited to two years and cannot run for higher office unless they resign. The law was changed to accommodate him. I'm guessing they will change the law to let him run again if he does not get the nomination. they also changed to law to make his spending much less.transparent and out of the public eye as he continues to ignore real problems Floridians face to run for president and fight his imaginary woke problems.
And we have a six week abortion ban now. More babies who will be abused, neglected and unwanted joining the overburdened foster cafe system. heartbreaking.
Our covid death rates were not good. Reporting was alleged to have been doctored and supressed. the CDC and major universities have made allegations of this. I know 9 people who died. One 44 and one 52 with no known prior conditions. Plus we don't have expanded Medicaid to help the working poor.
Educators are not happy. He has made it easier to sue teachers if they teach "woke" ideology, whatever that really means. I guess they will find out the hard way. We have over 9,000 teacher vacancies and pay very poorly.
Buckle up for more drama, bullying and bending or changing the rules if he does get the nomination.
The Disney feud is ridiculous. He admitted he is taking revenge on them. The Disney team used his quotes in the first sentence of their lawsuit to prove it. They employ hundreds of thousand directly, and attract an enormous amount of revenue here. Hotels, restaurants and so on employ thousands off property as well.
Speaking of another AOC, my own Congress person Corey Bush was one of two people to vote against a resolution on Monday that recognized law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty for National Police Week. 2 out of 435 did not support it.
While this is the kind of dumb rubber stamping action that annoys me, the fact that squad member, Corey Bush has the temerity to pretend she’s making some sort of important stand illustrates she does not represent me.
It would irritate me no end if my state’s governor was gallivanting around when he was supposed to be governing the state, instead, campaigning for president or any other office. I also do not like the very strict six week, limitation on abortion, but your logical leap to foster care seems… not logical. In reality, if someone does not want a newly born baby there are hundreds of parents who DO want that kid.Adoption, it’s an option.
Our state limits gubanatorial terms to two, for a total of 8 years. That is written in our state’s constitution. If you all want similar limitations, seems like you should get a constitutional proposal going. That’s not easy of course.
I don’t know what you mean about Covid deaths in Florida. Of course people died. I don’t know how the numbers were cooking Florida, but we all know the numbers can be looked upon as cooked on either side, and in many states. People died in Missouri, and I know personally of several. That doesn’t mean it is the fault of Ron DeSantis.
If you mean the ridiculous arguments over mandatory masking in your state that Desantis was involved in… it finally has come out that the CDC grudgingly admits masking may be only 10% effective if addressing Covid spread. That’s not nothing I know, but really it is a lot of todo about masking.
IL, there are thousands of kids waiting for adoption. In Florida about 4500 whose parental rights have been terminated and about the same number more waiting.

Actually my bigger fear is more will become abused or neglected or our dismal Maternal mortality rate will increase.
If you don't want a child, how will you take care of it? I am not pro abortion, just realistic.
I’m reading that DeSantis will probably announce his candidacy next week. It will be interesting to see if the voting public sees Florida as the dystopian hellscape his detractors are selling. I understand he has obtained a lot of endorsements in Iowa, much to the disgust of the Trump faction and the Democrats, both of whom have reasons to desire a Trump nomination. Trump sees himself as unbeatable and the Democrats fear anyone except Trump might be unbeatable against a Biden/Harris ticket.
There was an article in the NYT today, "If DeSantis Can't Beat Trump, Can Ramaswamy?" What do you GOPers think about Ramaswamy as an option?
I know he made his money in biotech and wrote a number of books critical of “woke capitalism” and favoring the traditional kind. Andrew Yang seems to really like him. Doesn’t poll terribly well, but that may just be a name recognition thing. What little I’ve heard about him is relatively positive (by my heartless capitalist free speech lights). But some conservative writers seem to believe he’s in it for self-promotion rather than conviction. He’s got an anti-woke ETF with a fairly high expense ratio.
We had an amazing mayoral race outcome here in historically ultra conservative Colorado Springs so maybe at least some of us are worn out from all the wasted time and efforts spent fighting each other. The winner is an African immigrant business man who appealed to the majority of voters on his open-minded, inclusive messages and ran as an independent. He never once bad-mouthed his opponent yet he was continuously labeled in opposing ads as liberal and socialist...blah blah... by the loser.
What's really scary is that there are actually still people that would vote for DJT. Seriously. Rob
That’s great PT!!
So now CNN is saying that there's tape of trump in the summer of 2021 1) acknowledging to someone, in front of witnesses, that one of the documents he stole (about some military action involving Iran) is classified so he can't share details, and 2) sharing the existence of that document with whoever he was sharing it with. This would seem to invalidate his excuse that he claims to have declassified everything before he left office, and also prove that he shared classified docs about highly sensitive national security issues with people who shouldn't have had access since even discussing the existence of the document would likely violate that law.
Well, his SIL DID get a $2 billion "investment" deal from Saudi Arabia. Not to mention his own LIV golf deal, the value of which we don't know. The thing I find remarkable is that the clowns on the republican side think all of this is happening behind the curtain and feel perfectly fine making absurd claims about biden's family. Thankfully I don't think Americans are as stupid as the republican party and their clueless supporters think they are.
Actually it is very interesting to see Trump attack DeSantis. He is merciless. I cannot imagine it will help the Republicans mount unified front to bring the party together. The drama is so tiring
So DeSantis polls something like 25% against Trump and RFK Jr polls something like 20% against Biden among potential primary voters. One situation seems to get a lot more attention than the other.
The local NBC News affiliate here in Vermont interviewed George Will, who was speaking at the Ethan Allen Institute. When the interviewer asked what people want in a leader, Will said that he thinks they want someone "cheerful." People are sick of division, negativity, and politicking when all they are trying to do is pay bills, mow the lawn, and raise their kids. His comment reminded me of Anna Quindlen's hypothesis that when presidents exude joie de vivre, it's infectious and the whole country does better.
Hmm.. so who is the most cheerful candidate so far? Hard to tell.
