I also have a Kindle Paperwhite. I'm hoping to start getting more reading time in soon.

SouizQ, I think I missed your bit about frozen shoulder. I had that, and it was a pain in the butt, not being able to lift my right arm... but when I did my research I read that women in peri-menopause are most at risk, and that it goes away on its own after a few months.
I had gone to a doctor who cluelessly wrote me a prescription for a pain medication that I never took, but after I read that it goes away by itself, I just waited it out and it did go away.
Of course I am not offering medical advice to you because you may have a completely different thing, but your mention of "frozen shoulder" perked up my ears, so I thought I'd share my experience.
Thanks for your insight Catherine. It was felt by my surgeon that the frozen shoulder is getting in the way of healing from the surgery last summer. I've already been through two courses of PT for it, plus all of the stretches and exercises I do at home every day. It really is a very painful and annoying condition! And hearing that it can take up to two years to resolve....ugh...I'm already so weak in my upper body now.
I canceled my WSJ and Economist subscriptions. WSJ was $4/minth but I like NYT much better, which is staying - $4/monrh. Economist at a discount is $175 a year. Up $15 from last year. It expires in August, but just wanted to do it while I remembered.
Only subscription besides NYT will be an individual Apple One subscription for iCloud storage and Apple Music.
Also increased car insurance deductible from $250 to $500. I’ll save about $65 on car insurance that way. It renews next month.
I love my McD’s in the am. Sausage McMuffin. Yum. Trying again to cut them out, for both health and cost reasons. Wish me luck. Didn’t go this morning. Baby steps. Then there is all the trash!
Tradd, we get Wall Street Journal and New York Times free through our public library. We also can get magazines such as consumer reports, The Atlantic and other magazines. All for free. Plus, of course, the online books, movies and audio books. Saves so much money each year.
The Economist is the one I really like, but it can’t be gotten free anywhere. I got it through library until two years ago, but then Economist changed terms on library use of their digital edition. My library had to drop it as it was too expensive. I googled and found complaints from others. To give you an idea, a non discounted subscription is about $250/year.
I get The New Yorker through my library and others. Unfortunately, they don’t have the Atlantic.
We're big users/supporters of our local library, too. Plus a lot of those cute individual libraries have sprung up all over our town. I have about a dozen books that I use as trade items. I've found a lot of unusual and interesting books to read that way.
Also, when we travel in the States, I always visit the local libraries and buy used books that the Friends' groups sell. the last time, I bought a big plump bag of books for $5. Made me happy-especially since we go snowed in for two days!
Good deal on the NYT! I was able to get a good rate for WSJ by trying to cancel, and then they gave me the same discount of $4/month. Maybe I should do the same for NYT--I currently pay $28, but I can't give it up. I think you and I enjoy the same reading material! I used to get The Economist, but that was too expensive, and I found that while the articles were really good, they are also really dense, and I just never settled down to read them with the attention they deserved.
Yes, it certainly sounds like we enjoy the same reading! The NYT articles are meaty, but they’re shorter than the Economist! I get more out of the NYT.
Spent an hour at Xfinity store to see if I could get a reduction. All they could give me was $5 off with a two year contract. Currently out of contract. I’m looking at Verizon 5G home internet.
Just ordered the Verizon 5G home internet. $55/month. Much cheaper than the Xfinity.
Got the Verizon 5G home internet router today. Speeds are about half of Xfinity, but it’s also about half the cost! Going to see how it goes for a few weeks.
I've had 5G internet for the past 2.5 years and am very happy with it. When I signed up for it I qualified for a half price for life deal and have been paying $25 per month for service which averages around 250mbps down and 30mbps up although it fluctuates a bit depending upon time of day. That is considerably slower than the fiber line I was previously using although I discovered that I really don't notice the difference. 250mbps download speeds is enough to simultaneously stream high def video/audio to multiple smart tv's, several computers/tablets and a couple of phones and smart devices without problem so it's more than enough for most users.
Just ran a speed test to see what tonight's speeds are; Attachment 6279
Alan, my Verizon gets 160 at the most so far. Xfinity is 300+.
I don’t have a TV. I stream audio constantly. Watch some videos on iPad, but not a ton.
We got fiber optics here last summer …. $25/month. Works great and told it will stay that price for 10 years. Feel very fortunate!
The Verizon 5G is too slow for when I have to work. I had to do a bit of work this weekend and it was decrepiy slow. Speeds are still 140-150 to 300+ with Xfinity. Verizon router is going back.
Decided to keep the Verizon. Did more work today and it was much better speed wise. At half the price, I can’t beat it.
The Verizon 5G home internet is working out very well. I had to work from home for several hours today and I didn’t have any issues. Can’t beat it at thr reduced cost compared with Comcast!
Also got an email yesterday from Verizon that my mobile phone and home internet costs are locked in for three years.
Threw another $1K into savings.
That's great, Tradd!
Emergency fund a bit over $9K
