Sweetana3: There are some really tasty canned cocktails out there these days. The appeal is the ease and convenience comparable to opening a can of beer.
Four cat toys in and 11 out!
I culled 3 shirts yesterday. It's funny how I can consider the same item, but different moods on different days yield different results. One day, it is a beloved shirt that is like an old friend I cannot possibly part with. Another day, it's an old shirt that has served me well, but I no longer wear it and it's time to let it go. Yesterday, I was in the latter mood. I probably should have cancelled all other plans and gone through t he house top to bottom, lol.
I am not as current on canned cocktails as I was a few years ago; I used to be quite the canned cocktail connoisseur! They stopped making some that were my favorites, but there are some others I liked that are still around:
Bourbon Cream Soda by Cardinal Spirits - It took me awhile to try this one because it sounds absolutely disgusting. I had bought it for DH, because he's always liked cream soda, which I always disliked. Turns out that cream soda just needs a little bourbon to become yummy - good think I didn't know that as a child.
Italian Margarita and Italian Lemonade by Fabrizia - Tasty lemon drinks
Whiskey Lemonade by Coastal Cocktails - Another tasty lemon drink
Pineapple Vodka Seltzer by High Noon - I generally am not a big fan for spiked seltzer, but I did like this one because I really like pineapple.
Coastal Cocktails also has some newer drinks on their website that look pretty tasty, but I haven't tried them.
Opened the rest of the Christmas cards and since I was going through stuff today they went right into the trash, except for one very nice card handmade by a fellow choir member. Had a bunch of other papers and a few small boxes from deliveries.
I have been putzing around all day decluttering little things, like unused stuff in the bathroom cabinet. I've been tossing really old lotion, old expired meds and those itsy-bitsy pieces of general clutter that hang around forever and seems to multiply on its own. My mantra is "did you use it this past year" or "have you been looking at the same crud for a few years in a row, keeping it for those just-in-case moments that never arrive?" If the answer is no then straight into the trash it has gone.
I also decuttered my email in-box, deleted the spam and the trash and disengaged from several political newsletters and retailers. My intention for the year is to be online less this year.
My end of the year clothing tally was 28 items in and 30 items out. It seems like I bought a lot of clothing in 2025, and I'm not sure what was behind that. I'm still doing very well compared to my days of spending thousands of dollars at Talbot's every year though. As long as more goes out than comes in, at least it's progress from a decluttering standpoint.
That's a good way to look at it. I guess we should be on to a January purge thread now. I admire you for doing an end of the year thing.
Do you have a total of clothing items you seek to stay below? Do you do it by category? I've tried something like that in past but wonder what others do, how many pants, etc.
Tybee: When I started tracking, we could barely jam all of our clothing into our one and only closet. It's a decent sized closet, but still the only one. It was hard to find anything, because items wouldn't slide along the pole because there was no room for them to move.
Now the closet is much more manageable, and we are even able to store other things in there (e.g. portable a/c, a few fans in the off-season).
I don't have a target total other than to not bring in more than goes out at this point. I do count my shirts, because they are the item that tends to be more of a recreational shopping item for me. When I started tracking, I had over 150 shirts , and now I'm down to 90. I know that's still a lot, but it's a big improvement.
I don't aspire to be a capsule wardrobe minimalist. I just want to feel like the clothing inventory is under control, which it pretty well is at this point.
I am going to make my goal for today to count my shirts!
Since we are talking about shirts here, even though there is a January purge thread started up, I’ll chime into this “counting shirts “ thread.
I’m not going to count mine, but I am going to ruthlessly weed even more after a weeding of clothing four weeks ago.
DH is finishing construction on a closet in my room. After that, I’ll be able to have clothes that are permanently organized. All my clothes have been living in various dressers, tubs, and open rack since 2022. I hate the look of clothing racks. Soon it will all be shut away neatly behind doors.
I remember the first time I saw open clothing racks in a Hollywood celebrity’s house. She lived in a normal size house and had turned one bedroom into the “closet “that held several racks full of her clothes. I thought it was hideous, and I was shocked that someone would choose to live that way but I accept that being photographed all the time requires a certain dedication to clothing.
I just counted and I have 55 shirts of all varieties and seasons and that is too many for the closet/dresser space I have, so will try to get that number down arbitrarily, need to ponder how many of each type.
We have been purging corn leaves!!!! The field across the street sends them to us after harvest...the wind howls and the corn husk fly up into our yard, getting caught in the flowerbeds, covering them deeply unless we keep at it. Some years we do well, other years...spring is major cleanup. The outside basement steps get covered, too. So we cleared those out yesterday as the plumber was coming to replace the well pump and tank. To get rid of the husks, we put them up a little higher in the yard and they blow up into the meadow behind us. The farmer does not seem to believe in crop rotation. We used to get a year off when he'd plant soybeans....
