Off the cuff meal tonight..we had spicy Asian peanut butter soba noodles--and pumpkin pie for dessert. It's what we were craving. Just polished off the last of a turkey breast over the last 4 days--tired of poultry.
okay-----made a run ta wallywortld for provisions, including a really CHEAP paint brush ta slap on a coat a paint on my workbench, and guess what? They had freshly canned corn for 50 cents so i snagged me a whole case! Yup. But yeah---i can eat 'er right outta the can or mix it in a pan with some other stuff ta fix me some corn chowder. Also, got some a their sweet corn bread. Howdya like that? Lot cheaper than one a them fancy rest-O-rants that charges $100 for a little food on a big plate. Ha.
Happy: That's what we're having tonight at my sister's house.
Bobby: Corn chowder makes me feel cheated because I expect my chowder to have clams or fish in it. (Picture me banging my spoon on the table, querulously demanding, "Where are my clams?") lol
We were at our cousins' last night. They do a nice little spread of appetizers and desserts, and this year, they had a platter of the most amazing sushi! I honestly only had eyes for the sushi. It was really wonderful.
We get a Bob Evans Farmhouse Feast ham dinner every year. Delicious and easy clean up.
Making chicken adobo longanisa, brown rice sinangag, and fried eggs.
We did an un-frugal thing and had our New Years meal out today on Jan 3. Paid way more than I am comfortable with for some tasty Indian food. So the leftovers will do for tonight.
A dish I've cooked for New Years the last couple of years is cioppino which is basically a traditional fish stew with a catch of the day. Snow crab clusters go on sale this time of year, at least here in the middle of the continent. A couple of varieties of a mild white fish, a few shrimp, clam juice, etc. Left overs freeze well enough to pull out for company.
Chicken smothered in bbq sauce with frozen mixed vegetables baked in foil wraps. Very good and enough chicken left to morph into a stir fry.
We had turkey meatballs in spaghetti sauce and a salad.
