Just saw "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World." I love apocalypse movies, so I really liked this one about the human side of what you would do if you knew the world was ending in six weeks. The cast was really good, and I was actually disappointed when we got to the end and it was over, as opposed to most movies recently which all seem to be about a half hour too long.
I've had it downloaded onto my kindle for a while now and finally watched The Way with Martin Sheen. Very good. Will definitely be watching in again.
Last night we watched "The Dallas Buyer's Club". I didn't care for it at first, but it got better towards the middle and end. In the "bonus" section, in an interview with McConnahey (?) he said that he'd read the guy's diary........which led me to believe this was a true story. I didn't know that.......and I'm still not sure that's true.
It was interesting to learn a little about AZT and how it was making AIDS patients sicker. I realize that the FDA has to do its job.......but it was sad that vitamins and protein were taken away from the patients, even though they were improving.
I can't believe how thin he had to get for the movie!
Last night we watched an old 1963 movie, Charade. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant were the stars. Enjoyed it very much.
Watched "Blindness" - a tale of a future U.S. where blindness becomes epidemic, except for one woman.
Spoiler alert:
The subsequent "Lord of the Flies" atmosphere for those who are quarantined was a little over the top, although, who knows how long humans could behave civilly when electricity is gone and food starts to run out??
The Grand Budapest Hotel................. brilliant!
I watched "Omar", a riveting film made in the West Bank (and Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film of 2013). There's humour, love, treachery, steadfast and not friendships, and it is really neat to see what life in the West Bank is like for Palestinians and Israelis. This is not an anti-Israel film by any means but it definitely shows how security agencies can ensnare anyone (in the tradition of classic Le Carre).
Last night we watched "Labor Day". It was a little schmaltzy......but got better towards the end. It had some flashbacks that were hard to understand for most of the film, but then were understandable at the end.
I would like to see it again. It had Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet.
We watched Zodiac last night. It was fairly dull and was damned long, but I'm not very interested in serial killer films. It's a true story of the cops and reporters who covered a famous case in the1960's. The critics liked it a lot.
