Those are great stories, JP
Aww, that’s nice JP. A good guy indeed.
Okay--the catts had mac-n-cheese, that I fixed an' put on their dry food. Well, the next morning it was all gone. They still love me, SO much! Yup. But yeah--beats going to one a them pet boutiques, and paying $3 for a teeny-tiny can o' gourmet frou-frou kitty num nums. Hope that helps you kids. Thankk mee.
Okay--Adolph, and his lovely bride, Eva, had a last meal of noodles w/tomato sauce. Yup. How do you like that? But yeah--I been reading about these USA condemned killers, who've been allowed to choose their last meal, and it's usually something like steak & lobster or two HUGE pork chops, or maybe a Giant-sized pizza with the works. Or a whole fried chicken. Yup. Take that into account. Hope that helps you some.
We had fresh sea scallops, pan fried with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The scallops are running about $22/lb which is quite steep, but we've found that 1/2 lb works very well for the two us if we have a starch and vegetable accompaniment, so it turns out to be a pretty reasonable cost per meal and the scallops were wonderful.
Last night was homemade pizza. Tonight will be leftovers.
This evening, I believe I'll have a plate of linguini a Bob-o. Or fettucini. The groc store that has mainly a low-income clientele has had lots of it on-sale. But yeayh--it's good with cold sauce or even heated sauce. Hope that helps you kids.
Red beans and rice.
Tonight is poke. Usually we go out on friday, our one day of splurging on dinner out, but yesterday we went to Napa to see David Sedaris do a reading and had dinner out beforehand so tonight we're having dinner at home. Poke has become one of my favorite easy meals so I'm super excited.
A bit more about how our personalities mesh well...
Last night we went to see David Sedaris at a book signing in Napa. While we were standing in line for SO to get his book signed I said "I should have gotten one of his books from the library to be signed! That would make it special for everyone that reads it if they see that he'd autographed it with a (most likely sarcastic) note to the library." Then SO said "knowing David's sense of humor maybe it would be even funnier if you had brought one of Amy's (his sister) books and asked him to sign that. To which I responded "Like Assassination Vacation? That book was great!" To which SO responded "Yes, but that was actually Sarah Vowell. Of course that might be even funnier. I can just hear him telling the story in a future book: (SO in David Sedaris voice) "So I was at a book signing in Napa and this guy came up and asked me to sign one of Sarah Vowell's books! I mean, the nerve! Yes, she's a friend, but still! And it was a library book!!!! Not even one that he had bought!! So I signed it all right. And said exactly what I was thinking."
Okay----Maybe you kids'd like some yummy Iwah cuisine! See photo. Attachment 5435Attachment 5435Attachment 5435
As I posted elsewhere, went camping this weekend and Saturday night was potluck dinner. Have a bunch of leftovers that will be dinner for tonight - ham & pineapple kabobs, bbq shredded chicken, salad, meatballs and I can't remember what else! LOL.
Minestrone soup made from leftover stewed tomatoes from yesterday's Scottish breakfast with DD/DSIL.
We bought a gorgeous bag of lettuce at a small farm market that gives me joy every night as i make salad! There are 6 varieties of lettuce, it was so clean and fresh!
Aiming to do more veg dishes so red bell peppers stuffed with farro, beans, corn and tomatos. Sprinkled with cheese and baked.
Chicken soft tacos with some leftover chicken from the local bbq place.
Met a friend for dinner at a favorite Middle Eastern place. Hadn’t been there in a while. I had beef shwarma with their delicious yellow rice. Yum.
I had peas, yesterday, and Beans, the day before. Today, it was tatoes. I may have burritos, fer supper tanite. The catts and doggs had hot doggs, and the doggs got hard-boiled aiggs along with their dry food. Yup.
Okay----I also picked up two jars o' dill spears at Aldis. I'm going on a binge, to clean my system. Hope that helps you some.
Tonight is seared tuna. SO mistakenly bought some in the freezer section next to the poke we love. It’s precooked and actually quite good. Just thaw it, let it warm to room temp and serve with some rice and sliced avocado with a bit of wasabi/soy sauce.
We bought 3 live lobsters at Market Basket Thursday for $8.99/lb, and they weighed just a hair under 5 lbs together. We had boiled lobster Thurs night, then last night we had the biggest, best lobster rolls that would probably have cost $50 each in a restaurant. We froze two of the bodies to go in a future tomato sauce or something. So while the up-front cost seemed high at $45.00, we fed the two of us twice, making the cost about $11 per person per meal, which is pretty cheap for wonderful lobster.
I haven't been cooking that much, but really need to step up and do more. I think I'll throw some chicken legs in the cp for tonight.
Okay---I just wanted to ask you kids if you are getting enough pickles in your diet? Because if you aren't, that right there is a dietary deficiency! Yup. Pickles--dill pickles and also pickled sliced jalapenos are Health Food. I mean--I'm not a registered dietician who graduated from some gummmint-funded propaganda machine that says eat three servings of pig meat every day. Nope. I learned what I know by empirical means, not by memorizing dogma dispensed by some overpaid, under worked employee of the state. But yesah---now do you see? Bottom line--I know I need pickles, and you probly do, as well. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.
We definitely tend to up our pickle game in the summer. For some reason, I can much more easily convince myself that pickles and potato chips constitute vegetable and starch courses than I can in the winter. We bought some of our favorite Butcher Shop brand half sour pickles this past week.
Pasta e fagioli. My first shipment from the Ranch Gordo bean club arrived and included cranberry beans. So, another cooking experiment.
Rosa you made me laugh. Chips and pickles as starch and veg. I tend to consider ice cream as dairy...We're having barbequed chicken for dinner. DH is doing 6 things-before covid we'd had a picnic on Mem. Day Saturday since the 70s or early 80s, but I am too tired now to be that entertaining! so I talked on the phone to one picnic goer and saw 2 in person...but the chicken today is just for us. Nice memories. And dinner for 3 nights!!!!
I’ll probably make my Middle Eastern eggplant and tomato dish.
sweet 'n sour chicken, rice and broccoli.
Chicken mole taquitos with scallions and a mocha drink with extra butter and cream.
I wish I had a private chef.
Trying to eat down the freezer, so tonight will be the soy patties I made and froze a little while back.
