Things turned out so well, frugal! So glad that you got to meet the new owners and it was wonderful to hear about the enthusiasm with the gardening/plants. And wonderful neighbors as well!
Congrats, frugal! Will be waiting to hear about your next adventures. Moving and starting anew can be very exciting with a positive frame of mind.
Rave for stepping out of comfort zone and just "going for it"....
Long weekend at a sibling's and ended up with two "firsts"...
1)Ziplined - while not a long one, it was great as a first experience. Had to climb a ladder, walk across a wire to get to the launch platform (considered THIS to be the biggest accomplishment - LOL) and then actually step off the platform. It was wonderful!!!! Siblings took video and I was apparently laughing the moment I stepped off to the moment I was unhooked and climbed down the second ladder. :~)
2) Indoor Skydiving - What an experience! Hard to describe, but loved it! Quick lesson on hand signals, three different very short "flights" in the wind tube. Learned turns, forward/backward and instructor lifted to a really decent height - for a beginner. LOL.
Never in my life did I ever think I would experience either one of these things let alone both! I'm still joyous at the memory of the experiences!!! LOL.
We made it! Thankfully our 1700 miles move is over! Almost everything is unloaded with boxes everywhere. Now we can take our time organizing! It was an adventure just getting here. I was worried about DH falling asleep while driving since he did so much heavy manual labor. But no, I was the one .. DH freaked out! I followed his car pulling a trailer. He watched in the rear view mirror as I hit the rumble strip, overcompensated and fought to get the car under control. The people behind me sure gave me a wide berth after that! We did a lot in a short time! I think it is understandable to be exhausted for a while! I have lots to be thankful for!
Awesome happystuff! Never even heard of indoor skydiving!
Congratulations, frugal-one! Although it will be more work, try to enjoy the "settling into home" process.
So glad to have a day off. Been horribly busy at work the last week or so. I’m just staying in. Supposed to be around 90 today. I have a proofreading/editing prophecy for the WI State Office of Historic Preservation that my WI diving instructor works for as a maritime archaeological. It’s on the ghost ports of Kewaunee County on Lake Michigan. These were small commercial ports that came and went with the lumber boom. 300 plus pages, although there are a lot of references and such at the end. I’m at about page 70. It’s due on Friday. I aim to get most of it done today.
So glad my Global Entry application finally changed status to conditionally approved. Took FIVE months to get there. Got the email notification last night. Went online immediately to get an interview appt. I was able to snag one TOMORROW at the Rockford, IL airport. That’s about an hour from me. Nothing was available at O’Hare. I don’t have the days off available to go elsewhere so I got this one.
Chicago weather wasn’t bad. It was downright lovely Saturday, and not bad at all yesterday.
The Chicago Botanical Gardens are wonderful AND they treated our Lily Society like Royalty. They gave us a big beautiful room for the show, they made available meeting room space of various sizes, their staff was at attention and running to get things we needed, and now it seems they will even store the local group’, tubes and bases for future shows. This is unprecedented!
and compared to what the Missouri botanical gardens in St. Louis does for our plant societies it is such a contrast. MO BOT pretty much discourages plant societies from public shows or much else from anymore. Well, they are not going to be in my will.
I used to meet my friend there when our kids were small and it was about half way in between us and we would let the kids run and we got to admire the plantings and get ideas.
I'm in a "I love my home" mood. DH refinished the floors in June. I am going to confess that I wound up getting new furniture for the living room--not just for aesthetics but because I felt so bad when DH and had company over and we sat in our big "thrones" and other people had to sit on hard kitchen chairs. I bought a one-armed loveseat that fits 3 small-medium people and a club chair for DH. We removed the rather large bistro table we used as an end table and also we removed and moved to my office the big imposing Governor Winthrop desk.
When I look around at the new floors and more welcoming living room, along with the cheery wallpaper and the stained glass window I bought on eBay, and the bright primary color palette and the natural elements of bamboo shades and the very few pieces of wall art and lamps that I brought from home that I love, I can honestly say, I love my home.
Now I have to work on my office because it's way too cluttered with furniture, but that won't take too much work. New paint job, removing furniture and books I don't need, reorganizing, and it will be done. And once it's done I will be working AT my great-aunt's desk rather than just using it as a big storage unit in a living space.
Catherine, that sounds so nice! I still like your wallpaper a lot but I would choose the pink version.
Oh, when I talk about my home-rave, I'm not even talking about my garden, which is doing very well this year. You will see there are vines climbing up the pergola.. those are lonicera (honeysuckle) that I just planted this year. There are a lot of buds on them and they'll probably bloom next week. You can also see in the background the milkweed, echinacea, and Shasta daisies (not in bloom yet). I also have some beautiful wild geraniums this year and some lavender Veronica my daughter gave me for Mother's Day. I also added an elderberry bush.

Catherine, your yard is lovely!
It is spectacular, Catherine, a totally cool lake cottage!
Ditto on the beautiful yard, catherine! Looks like a lovely space to sit and enjoy some outside time.
That yard is darling! So picture perfect cute. A magazine will come and photograph that. What do you put on your paths?
Global Entry interview this morning went very quickly. Maybe 2-3 minutes. A few questions, fingerprints, a photo. I should have response in a few weeks. The Rockford Airport is so small it was a really good choice. I was able to park very close to the office where I had to go. Parking is free for the first two hours. It was an hour’s drive each way, but so much better than dealing with O’Hare.
Catherine I hope that you haven’t been affected by all the rain there. The stories and images look pretty frightening.
Glad to hear that it went well. I can only imagine what ohare would’ve been like. I hate that airport. Most of our friends here that have global entry or tsa pre have gone to Sacramento for the interview for similar reasons to yours. Faster appointments and ultimately an easy process.
Thanks, jp.. all is fine where I am. We're on an island, so the only thing that happened was the lake swelled a little, but we are fine. Soggy lawns and gardens is all. I feel bad for all those places in VT I know so well, like Ludlow, Weston and Londonderry that have had major flooding. We have a friend who owns an inn in Landgrave (between Londonderry and Weston) and I really hope he is OK.
I saw Vermont on the news tonight and was wondering about you Catherine. Glad you are safe.
I'm supposed to be in Ludlow next week for a craft class but i don't think that will happen. I've seen such awful drone footage. I never think of VT when i think of natural disasters.
I love your garden, Catherine. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks we need to see pictures of your interior updates?
And I already got my global entry approval. Already added the number to my reservation for December trip.
