The point of ice creaming is virtue signaling. I know because I do it myself to signal to my tribe “I’m with you.” A Reddit upvoting button does the same.

I also like the fact that no one is censored even if there is too much ice creaming and some pretty repetitive posts coming out of certain posters, me included. You all can joke all you like about salad spinners, but we really don’t talk about salad spinners often maybe, what, once every two years? And we really have not had a serious debate about them in quite a long time.

I post on ice cream threads because I like to tweak people who don't like their chocolate adulterated with fruit, and vice versa. I also generally drop a comment related to the original topic. How's that for virtue signalling? :D

Clearly a micro aggression aimed at the culinarily sensitive. Besides, ice cream is for lightweights, and advanced palates prefer frozen custard.

I'm pretty catholic when it comes to frozen desserts, though lapsed otherwise. I wonder if there's a frozen custard version of Mandarin Orange...

I’d like to ream whoever does the pickups of blood for testing for my doctor’s office. I had blood drawn Monday. Stupid people never picked it up. Now they want me to come back in. Absolutely not. They lost their chance. I was two hours late on Monday to work due to this. I’m having to work extra the rest of the week to make up for coming in late. I’m not going to go through that again next week. I told them I’ll call them when I’m able to come in and it’s probably going to be a good while.

Guess I am not advanced since I dislike frozen custard.

Saw the evil ex at the gas station. Why can't the world be a bigger place? I like this gas station but now I'm going to start going elsewhere.

As I recall you are liberal. How you feel about running into Donald Trump? Would it make you cringe? Would you try to avoid Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago, or other places where you might run into him?

Here is my peeve: I opened a bottle of 2012 Merlot from Columbia Winery. I usually like the Columbia Valley red wines. I always like Merlot.

This was not drinkable. There was sediment in it but that really is not a problem it was just —not good.I even set it aside for a few days in case that first sip was not indicative of the entire bottle. UGG.

You recall wrong. I am an independent. I would not go out of my way for trump. I would just ignore his ugly a$$. He is not worth the effort of recognizing or even acknowledging. He no longer has the power to affect my life.

Recently met a guy that used to be a friend at a garage sale. I stood right next to him and said not a word. The only way people can get †o you is if you let them. Your ex won because he still affects you.

I have heard people with your mentality before dismissing victim discomfort.

Maybe you could travel to Surfside and offer your amateur counseling there - they're obviously dead, give up the false hope, get over it, get on with your lives, don't let those who ignored the building reports win by being affected.

I was in that mind frame too... I changed where I shopped. where I showed my horses etc ( he kept his horse in the area) etc..... Until I finally realized that he is a miserable person and treats everyone else the same way he treated me. It was not about me... Since I found out that he treated other women the same way, it became non personal to me. That was very freeing
Back story: we got married, it ended 7 years later. The house we were in was the love of my life. I was able to cash him out ( Thank You Gramma ) He had to be out by Oct. He drug his feet until he was threatened with involvement if the law. And because he was the KING of passive aggressive, he moved out, leaving a mess for me to clean up .. And the ultimate move of passive aggressive, he rented a house 1/2 mile from me, on the same street. The freeway was closer him by going north. I would see him going south past my place to go to the freeway. And yes, I would see him rubberneck to see if I was outside or what was going on with the house. The area that I worked my horses was parallel to the road, so I saw him drive by often. It was a very impowering moment for me . I began shopping where I used to, I started showing back at where he had his horse. I moved on... And that is an awesome feeling

also... quite awhile ago, I posted on the Family and Relationships section that I was listed as deceased on my high school memorial FB page. September 2019 was our 40th high school reunion . My first husband ( the passive aggressive on was #2 ) was there . I ignored him too. and here he thought I was dead LOL. Jeppy.... Ya gotta try and find the humor in things

I did ignore him and he ignored me. But I still would rather not run into him. I want to fill my life with positivity as much as possible.

It was most likely a one-off chance that he was there. Now... Lets look at this a step further. What if he decides to got to a different gas station because he saw you. And you go to a different one. And this different one turns out to be the one you both inadvertently decide to frequent. Then what? best thing to do is ignore him. There is a saying "Living Well Is The Best Revenge"

Usually I get gas on the way home but there was a storm so I went in the morning. So if I go in the evening plus somewhere else I should be doubly good. The last I knew he didn't have a car and he was buying snacks and drinks not gas. So if I go a couple miles away I likely will not see him.

And I was glad I had put on weight, let my hair go gray, and was dressed unattractively. Living well I might still be attractive to him and I want to repel him.

The only sure thing besides death and taxes is the other shoe dropping when things are doing well.

Just need to get in the habit of not getting overly excited about something, as when something is going well, the other shoe drops sooner than later.

The function to spray windshield washer fluid on my new car doesn't work. There was also no washer fluid in it. I put some I had in and it still doesn't work. Here goes another Saturday at the dealership.

Minor rant, not really rant worthy, but a comment on society: why are people so afraid of color in their homes?
We visited 3 homes last Saturday night in a progressive dinner. Each one was decorated in various shades of light grey. Grey floors for the most part. Grey or white kitchen cabinets. All houses have been decorated over a 3 year period.

“They have good taste!” Said my friend with good taste about one of these houses.

They do?

The single piece of decor I really remember in these houses was a set of dining room chairs upholstered in mustard yellow. Finally, some color.

This year my friend with good taste ripped out his fabulous lacquer red kitchen cabinets to put in the ubiquitous white Shaker kitchen. He painted his first floor grey (surprise!) from the formerly wonderful chartreuse. I am thinking he doesn’t have good taste any more, he has joined the ranks of the Grey people.

please understand I LOVE grey as a neutral and absolutely love white kitchens and if these choices weren’t in every damn house that is what I would have chosen for my condo. But, I just can’t do it, my condo needs some personality.

While I can understand your rant, I have to disagree somewhat. I love the neutral colours to act as a canvas to which I add colour in flowers, bright placemats, plants, bright plates on the wall, etc. My kitchen cupboards are a very dark brown which I like but it is hard to keep dust-free when the sun shines on it.

I got nuttin’ against neutral backgrounds if they serve as foil for colored objects.

Also, neutral decor with lots of texture and contrast is great.

These weren’t that, although I will say that a custom designed-by-owner center hall chandelier was pretty groovy, and bright in multi color.

Or neutral walls and floors with interesting furniture and art…one of my friends has that. I cannot even tell you the color of their walls, some sort of white I suppose. But they have stunning antique pieces and big art.

I agree--I'd like to see lots more variation in decorating trends out there, but people are timid and don't like to fall too far out of line. But I say that as one whose house has ivory walls and no discernible decor at all, so I'm hardly an arbiter of taste. Having said that--red lacquer cabinets!! I would love those.

I think color intimidates people in general, judging by my quilting experience. There were quilters who consistently worked with a palette of about four colors, over and over and over, and other's who just copied quilt shop samples color for color.

Those red cabinets sound beautiful. In my bedroom I always have a bright drama wall. Right now it’s pink. I always add color with accents mainly because if I change something expensive I am not going to do it twice. Also on average I only own a place for 6 years so need to appeal to the masses.

His red lacquer cabinets were designed by a European architect (another neighbor) and they were on a track to be movable. That was silly but fun.

The lacquer cabinets were epic and were featured in a local decor magazine. I had them in mind for my condo before I decided on traditional. At one point I was going to hit art deco theme pretty heavily. Lacquer fits well into art deco.

Anyway – the red lacquer cabinets and the lack of color at his place marks the end of an era. He still has fabulous art, I mean serious art.I just feel there’s so much blah and Meh around my neighborhood these days.

Well I am going on and on about this. Ha ha. So I’ve been able to distill in the last hour my concern and it is this:


Instead of giving my eyes something that hurts them, the Grey People give my eyes nothing to land on. My eyes my eyes! They need stimulation but stimulated with something good.

It is ALL. ABOUT. ME.

That is a unique home - for someone who loves historical homes and has the energy to handle the stairs.

Is there a requirement to meet for a certain type/colour of paint or when re-cladding these wonderful unique homes? In my area, if a home is declared a "heritage home", a number of restrictions kick in. I am not sure what they include but one house recently went through the process of being delisted as the restrictions were severely limiting the saleability of the property.

There may already be a sale pending on it. Not sure about heritage status or local regs. Friends say it's at the crest of a long hill (Astoria is pretty hilly), so between that and all the stairs, it's not likely to be my retirement cottage.

That is a wonderful paint job on that old Victorian, I mean the exterior. It’s very effective. The red door pops. The interior is lovely and elegant and those floors are simply sublime. What pretty floors. I think the kitchen is not sensitive to the house.


So I looked into Astoria which is an old town as you know. they call themselves the first settlement west of the Rockies.. And here is this gem, if you want to see something cute and original here it is:

The ironing board! The kitchen is wonderful with its original cabinetry and built in breakfast nook furniture. And the built-in beds are fabulous!

There might be a nice view of the Columbia from the rooms upstairs.

Lovely to look at and picturesque design; so much more to than the simple boxes of today. In all these houses that I have seen, there is no evidence of elaborate gingerbread on the exterior. I spent a couple of years studying the local gingerbread, taking photos and even writing a published article in the local newspaper. When I downsized, that all got tossed as I could find no one interested. Still enjoy seeing the remnants on older houses which are a real pain to paint, I am told.

IL, you know you've hit my hot button on bland HGTV/Joanna Gaines cookie-cutter decor. I completely feel your pain.

I adore Christian Siriano, and I admire his house--especially the divine room with the green-striped chairs. And the distressed green sideboard. And the attic hideaway.

That's what I think quilting is about, so I'm always puzzled when people don't make the most of of that.
