A nice haul at the Goodwill today--2 lovely champagne flutes which I may give to my son and dil when the new baby comes, or may keep for myself! An unopened set of dice for my grandson for his birthday this month. A set of dominos, 30 years old, still in the wooden box and complete with rules, three ironware custard cups (now I have to start making custard!) the complete set of Ken Burns Civil War, since have been wanting to rewatch it now that I know a lot more family geneaology, and some movies--Caine Mutiny, Dr. Strangelove, American Beauty, something about trains, something about musicians, and an episode of the Lou Grant show. All for 16 dollars, while husband peacefully ate donuts and read magazines in the car (he is happier there.) And the sun was shining through it all!
Got 9 stemless wine glasses at the local thrift store. Marked $2.99 each and they sold them for 69 cents each. They are nice!

Great butterfly photo on Bing.
Lovely weather and a walk at the park.
Lots to watch on tv tonight!
A staffing agency let me study and retake Excel skills tests. I went from 86% to 100% normal user and 10% to 96% power user. This should help me find work.
Went to a library event with Bill Bryson speaking. He was great, funny, enjoyable. Free.
I went to one of my alma maters to update my last name so it will match what is on my job applications. Spoke with the placement person. She is only supposed to help currently enrolled students but gave me some pointers anyways, told me about a job fair that alumni may also attend, and gave me her business card for follow up next month.
Went to a seminar my ex-employer did not cancel and get a refund on although I no longer work there. I met the CEO of a staffing agency who may be able to find a position for me.
Hooray for aloe vera. A nasty little kitchen burn was greatly helped by an immediate application of cold water and fresh aloe vera juice. Have had my 2 aloe plants for years and never used them until yesterday's incident. Really works!
Central heat as the temperatures dip below zero for the second night in a row. I have cut and split wood by hand before and do not romanticize the olden days of constantly feeding a fireplace or wood stove.
Pi Day aka Pie Day! had both a slice of pizza pie and later a small piece of peach pie. All in. Brought in tiny dessert pies for my co-workers who loved it. Started a new tradition in our office for 3.14 next year.
I got outside for a short walk at lunch today after feeling housebound all week. There were a couple of people playing violins in the atrium of my office building as I passed through. I saw Blanco the white squirrel in the park, and a beautiful hawk (fortunately not too close to each other). It was a pleasant little interlude and I really enjoyed it.
For the first time I got called for a second interview, so I guess my self-presentation skills are getting better.
Winter is back here and if it gets up to 50 here, then I am getting outside for a walk. I have bad no sunlight and it is cold cabin fever.
I started lifting weights again after a long break and now every muscle is all sore. That is a feeling I've missed.
I have started going back to the Buddhist temple so Saturdays are always a day of serenity for me.
Mid 40s- warm enough for a park walk today!
The Moth Radio Hour
Family members who get simple living, and are happy to play table games instead of going out spending money together.
Chavez, I understand the lifting feeling. Being able to run is mine.
A couple of days ago I saw swans first time this year. The spring is coming. Today I'll go skiing for the last time this winter.
The crocuses are in bloom.
Close to 80 degrees today and I am probably sunburned from 2 walks at the park and 1 in my neighborhood - but it was so much fun to get out of the house and into some sunshine!
Free event at the local small airport featuring all kinds of aircraft and dozens of classic cars. Plus perfect weather to enjoy it all - fun morning all around.
Free is the best price there is!
I have found a mentor. She has been laid off from 6 different jobs and even though she is working now she goes to networking groups and helps out unemployed folks.
Went to see my brothers who live a few hours away and there was a detour. So I plugged in my GPS and it took me to places I haven't visited in MANY years. I had wonderful music on the radio. It was a pleasure! Then got home in time to go for a walk before it started to rain! A great day!
It is a brothers week then frugal one, because I saw mine today. He is a professional photographer who did an up-to-date picture for my LinkedIn profile. Here I was not wanting to change the 15 plus year old photo because of age discrimination and a career counselor, who did not know when it was taken, told me I look younger now due to my haircut which got me moving. I am never going back to long hair again!
Yeah = Aldi actually had most of the veg / fruit that was in their ad for a change- grape tomatoes, asparagus, blackberries and green peppers that were not in the ad. I picked up the wrong flavor of yogurt though but I will eat it anyway. Skipped the oranges that didn't look good and they were out of spinach.
Finding organic vegetables and fruits now close in price to pesticide laden..... potatoes, tomatoes, celery, apples, lettuce. It is a pleasant surprise!

Netted about $325 at our yard sale and met 2 more of the neighbors. Sat outside in the wonderful weather and got to coo at my new grandbaby while we did it. Donated the sale leftovers to the Goodwill. A wonderful morning.
