Yes. That is exactly what the NYT did. I don’t consider myself to be a sad MAGA. I see myself at a relatively cheerful conservative who sees the humor in political and ideological obsessions.

Yes. I think a ludicrous baby- man asserting royal prerogatives as he’s being taken to jail is hilarious. I think a congressman claiming he thought pulling a fire alarm would open a door is hilarious. I think a brawl outside the LA Museum of Tolerance is hilarious. I think is hilarious that we aren’t supposed to say “master bedroom”, “field” or “mother”. I think people chanting the slogans of a group who would cheerfully cut their throats is hilarious. I find the moronic tribalism and catastrophizing of our time is silly in the extreme.
When Democrats shout the slogan of Palestine “ From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” we are not to think that is a rallying cry to kill Jews in their way of taking back their land. Democrats do not mean that! Don’t put that label on them!
I guess it is irrelevant that many Jews themselves take that phrase to be ann anti-Semitic expression of violence and hatred. Victims voices count, until they don’t.

So this dichotomy of view, this name-calling of Palestinians as they chant their apparent antisemitic chant, got me to thinking about name-calling of TERFS.
If one questions the advisability of treating minors aggressively with medicalized solutions with surgeries and drugs to combat their body dysmorphia, we are called trans haters promoting a genocide of trans people. Simply questioning the science ( or maybe I should rightly say “science “) that is increasingly being questioned and adjusted in European countries is considered hate speech.
The whole thing is interesting, who are the haters and who are not. Probably CNN is the final arbiter if this question, I just need to settle in front of the toob to find their answer.
I wouldn't say it's humorous but I'm guessing about half of US voters would consider it karmic. Of course, karma often results in humor, especially when the other half of US voters try to convince us that our justice system has never before been used to achieve political ends. That's definitely humorous!
Personally I find it sadly humorous when a large minority of the population is cool with the idea of a presidential candidate openly speaking about tossing aside the ‘inconvenient’ parts of the constitution and then those same people claim to be the supporters of ‘freedom’ and are worried that after they die so will freedom.
Our regional facilities are being overwhelmed with immigrants. A lot of them end up living on the streets in homeless camps, which then are being removed. I assumed they are bussed here from the border. As much of a liberal as I am, the Dems have failed with any sort of solution. Where is Kamala? My local recreation center was temporarily converted to serve recent immigrants. If I got the early news correctly, the report was 10,000 daily border arrests? For what it's worth, Trump never provided any sort of lasting solution either, although his tough stand seemed like a temporary deterrent.
GOP will have to fabricate any economic failures of Biden, but they may have a point with immigration.
As Chicago now has ordinances about bus drop offs, the migrants are now being dropped off in suburbs far outside Chicago. Now the burbs are passing their own ordinances.
https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news...cago-by-train/
Fox River Grove, IL is a small town of about 4300, NW of Chicago, in McHenry County. I actually drive through it on my daily commute and used to live there in the late 90s. Migrants were dropped there earlier in the week. It is most definitely not a sanctuary city. McHenry County leans right. The bus companies are dropping migrants off in Chicago suburbs that have Metra commuter train service to Chicago, now that CHicago has an ordinance requiring advance notice, migrants have to be dropped off in certain places. Buses can be impounded and bus company fined. At least one bus has already been impounded where CHicago’s new ordinance.
I was watching “the Clinton affair “, a documentary about the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and it amused me to see sexual harasser Kevin Spacey introduce sexual harasser William Jefferson Clinton at the big Presidential inaugural ball.
it is interesting to look at these events in hindsight.
And Joe Biden marches on forgiving student loans left and right. I’ve googled a little here and there, and from that I guess our president did in fact invoke an education act as he threatened to do after the Supreme Court told him to cut it out, he can’t forgive student loans under the HEROES a t?
I caught a congressional hearing on video that took place a couple months ago. President Joe Biden’s nominee for a New York District court judge position, Sarah Netburn, was voted down. She did not get the job. This is because one sole Democratic congressman voted against her. 10 others obediently lined up to promote this Biden choice who placed a trans woman in a female prison. A VIOLENT trans woman.
please know what this trans woman did, her convictions:
* brutally raped a 9 year old boy
* brutally raped a 17-year-old girl
Sentenced to 18 years, he finally got out on parole with a proviso he not access the Internet
* he immediately accessed the Internet and begin trading violent pornographic child abuse materials
back into court, he claimed at the age of 51 he was a woman. He was a 6’ 2” man with a violent history .
judge Netburn not only agreed to place him in a women’s prison, she gave everyone a little lecture about gender affirmation and how we all need to be kinder to those who identify as opposite sex. This is an activist judge.
She is crazy. The Democrats who voted for her are crazy.
It appears she also lied on the stand, but that wasn’t proven because the committee had cut off further questioning of judge Netburn.
I could put this in the trans thread, but I think it’s a good reason not to vote for Democrats. When it comes to trans’ feelings versus safety of women, it’s not the women who win.
With these outrageous trans cases, it’s not the trans actor I blame, it is the people and systems that coddle and promote it.
people will always take advantage and fringe people will take what used to be considered fringe advantage, but when the fringe is thrown into the mainstream, that is not OK.
If anyone thinks a violent sexual predator is going to reform, I have a bridge to sell you.
Kamala Harris is far from perfect but I will take her stumbling and bumbling any day over an Evil Authoritarian Dictatorship on offer through DJT. Ironically enough I'm a true patriot - I'm voting AGAINST DJT/ Evil Authoritarian Dictatorship. That simple. Rob
Personally I think she talks too much. She's not a natural orator. When I heard Obama introduce her this week I remembered how good an orator he is. I don't think she stumbles. When I watched her town hall she reminded me of how I would probably handle those questions--overthinking them and then just blabbing my point as thoughts entered my brain. She's even said that she stops to think and research when people ask her for a decision which is why she's not good on her feet in interviews. I agree with her.
I admire people who admit they don’t know everything and take time to research and ponder the best decision or response. This is a strength IMO.
She did a bit at first in her role as VP. Conservative Sky News out of Australia has some gaffes of hers - one in which she claimed that the US and NORTH KOREA had a long term mutually beneficial working relationship - on youtube. That said she's come into her own and is doing much better now. Rob
From the White House
“…Asked about the president's intentions to pardon Hunter Biden on Nov. 7, shortly after the election results came through in favor of Donald Trump, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, "We've been asked that question multiple times. Our answer stands, which is no."
and
President Biden had also previously told ABC News' David Muir that he did not intend to pardon his son, during an interview in June. he said at the time he would accept the results of the trial.
Today doddery old Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter on that federal gun charge.
Now, I don’t consider that gun charge to be a big deal, but I wonder why the lying liar who lies had to lie over and over again about what he was going to do when we all knew what he was going to do. Also since this is a party that is so adamant about gun control I think it’s quaint they’re letting this slide by.
Of course Grandpa Joe was going to pardon Hunter.
Possibly the year’s most predictable broken promise
It's not just the gun conviction but also appears to cover the guilty plea in Hunter's federal tax evasion case. I know Biden has gone on the record dozens of times saying he would not do this, but everyone knew he would. I think the only surprise is that he didn't wait until his last day in office to do so.
oh Jesus, I wasn’t following that. Well that I can’t dismiss, it is a LOT of tax fraud not just one action that is charged 34 times. Taxes are for thee, not for me which I guess is his mantra. He pleaded guilty to these tax fraud counts:
According to the indictment, Hunter Biden engaged in a four-year scheme in which he chose not to pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019 and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns. As alleged in the indictment, to further this scheme, Hunter Biden:
- subverted the payroll and tax withholding process of his own company by withdrawing millions outside of the payroll and tax withholding process;
- spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills;
- in 2018, stopped paying his outstanding and overdue taxes for tax year 2015;
- willfully failed to pay his 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 taxes on time, despite having access to funds to pay some or all of these taxes;
- willfully failed to file his 2017 and 2018 tax returns, on time; and
- when he did finally file his 2018 returns, included false business deductions in order to reduce the very substantial tax liability he faced as of February 2020.
I thought the gun charge was a bit messed-up, and I think I've mentioned here previously why. I don't have much issue with the pardon for this.
I didn't follow the tax charges, Iris' summary above make me think pardoning those is utter BS.
The pardoning takes care of the jail aspect, but what does it do to the financial/fine aspect?
As for the firearms charges, this is going to be used, I suspect against the democrats for some time.
You have to be quite a doofus to get jammed up for lying on the 4473:

170 guns? Tens of thousands of rounds of ammo?

Biden's rationale for pardoning Hunter, according to the news today is, "all the other Presidents did it--why can't I?"
Apparently, Clinton pardoned his half-brother for cocaine charges, and Trump pardoned Charles Kushner for tax evasion.
Plus, Hunter also seems to be getting off for good behavior--5 years of sobriety.
I read that the pardon covers any offenses committed between January 1, 2014 and December 1, 2024. Just in case someone missed something.
This would seem to make it difficult for Democrats to claim the moral high ground on the rule of law for a bit.
In these days of marginally ethical politics it's seems like a lesser of evils. Now they can quit looking for the missing Ukrainian laptop, too. I hope it torks Jim Jordan off.
Makes me think of the old British saying, "Pardon me, Governor":laff:
