Here is a shout out for one of the best little irises in existence, the IB “Rare Edition” (1980) at 20” tall. It is 40 years old this year but is as fresh and modern as anything hybridized today. It is distinctive in the garden and at the time was a huge breakthrough.
There are many Iris with his color pattern but this one was early for a median Iris.

Plant bearded iris. There may be other types that grow in your area but I don’t know them so I won’t recommend them. Many bearded iris do well through our winters and there are some that are hybridized by Minnesota people so they wouldn’t mind super cold. I mean they are a winter hardy plant.Quote:

Really! I would be delighted to drive over and meet with you if you let me know (pm) when you come. I was an RBG member for years visiting every 2-3 weeks for the changes in bloom. Last few years I have purchased a seasonal pass to Whistling Gardens instead. I watched it evolve from a couple's dream into a reality so feel like a proud if distant aunt. I hope access is possible before too many blooming periods are done. Darren has the most amazing peony collection - early, mid and late.Quote:

DH is pumped about going to that area of Ontario Because there is a Cockshut tractor museum he wants to see. Cockshut is a Canadian tractor he is enamored of. It’s just a dumb tractor, but he is love in love with it.
