Agreed. I never use mine to strain, say, browned hamburger, but to wash vegetables it beats the tar out of rinsing by hand and drying in or on a towel, particularly leafy greens, which I eat often. I do, however, have a 10x10 kitchen and -- not counting the salad spinner -- four strainers (plastic, steel, smaller mesh, and DW's "berry bowl" colander [which gets very little use]).
And I will add that my salad spinner was a Target reject sold through Goodwill -- whoever bought it first managed to break the ring you need to pull on the string (or maybe it was broken from the get-go). One spare plastic ring I had in my parts bin and a good knot later and it's worked for me for years.
