What are you watching in 2025??

OK, I have to admit I was wrong about a film. A past Oscar nominated film.

I purposely did not watch the 2019 film “A Star is Born “because I don’t like musical films and Lady Gaga sets my teeth on edge. I did like the main song from that film so I had seen a clip that included that music.

But last night, I watched the entire film from beginning to end and yes, it was moving. It had great performances. Really stellar direction by Bradley Cooper. Fantastic cinematography,. And Dave Chappelle showed up in the middle of the film. Chapelle???!!!!! Sign me up! I had to check the credits to verify it was him.

I remain skeptical that one voice/one songwriter can become an overnight sensation, picked from obscurity but I guess it does happen. Chapelle Roan is the latest example I guess. Adele from decades ago…another. Most of those on top have been grinding away at it for years.

okay-----Faux, that one you mentioned----is from up the road in a nearby BR community. kind of like Hum Dumb, only its grown 4xx in the last 40 years, 'steada shriveling up. But no----we don't like her, here. Nope. So, she's out in hollyweird, instead. hope that helps you some.

The original version was of course made in the 30s I think--Janet Gaynor played the lead. Stars did become "overnight successes" back then, thanks to the studio system. Then the one I remember the most was the Judy Garland/James Mason one. I loved that movie. I never saw the Barbra Streisand/Kris Kristopherson remake, but I did see Gaga/Cooper. That one was decent. But I gotta stick with Garland/Mason. That was one of two movies (the other was Days of Wine and Roses) that I was personally connected to, even though I was very young when I first watched them.

We started watching Mountainhead film last night, on MAX but found it wanting and turned it off about halfway.

A strange futuristic techno tale that tries to also be a dark comedy. Kind of a disturbing mish-mash of genres...seemed written by a committee...

Watched "The Man From Earth" last night. I had seen blurbs of it and found them interesting. Finally found it for free with ads on Amazon Prime. I enjoyed it and feel like I need to watch it again - I think I missed stuff. lol

We are watching A Man on the Inside, comedy with Ted Danson, and loving it.

okay----i was going to watch Koldburger appear in court to get his 4xxx consecutive Life Sentences, and have the real killer step forward and confess at the last minute, so that Koldburger could be exonerated. But, I missed it. It sounds as though Mr Koldburger will be living very simply, from now on. Yup. Maybe, he will reveal the location of his K-bar, in an interview on Court TV. Edited to add: Koldburger(see photo). Does he look guilty, to you? Looks like nothing more than a pencil-necked geek, to me. Maybe, the K-Bar will be found in the possession of the REAL killer, with his and the victims DNA all over it. Then, Koldburger can be released from prison. Yup.Attachment 6463

Am working my way through the series Waiting for God. I remember seeing most of the episodes, but I apparently missed some here and there. Very enjoyable - especially since I'm now at/close to their ages. LOL

This probably isn't a "cool" opinion, but we (me, DH and Sis) went to see the play Rent yesterday, and none of the three of us particularly liked it. The storyline was a bit incoherent, and this was quite unusual for me during a live theatre experience, but I was actually somewhat bored, and happy for it to finally be over. It did have a few good moments, but that 's the best I can say about it, and the tickets weren't cheap.

okay----this morning I sat-n-watched part of an interview with John Hinkley, jr. I don't know if anya you kids know this, but almost half a century ago, he assaulted then-President Reagan and also press secy Jim Brady, who was never the same, afterward. but yeah---a jury found John NGRI, and he was confined to a mental hospital for decades. Jody, who triggered John's obsession, should have been tried, too. She is clearly deranged. Anyway, they ask John how he's doing these days, and he said he's been spending time with his catts, painting pictures of his catts, and writing songs. Probably to his catts. So, you know he's generally a pretty decent guy. He's also performing summa his songs; don't know when, but it might be worth seeing, if i can afford the concert tickicks. See---i got PROJECTS to work on, plus managing the vegetation that grows like crazy, here. Yup. Wish meee luckkk.

okay---we/i interrupt this ongoing discussion to let everyone know about the passing of Diane Hall. Yup. She was in several mooo-vvveees, I guess, but the only good one was the one named after her. Yup. I'm gonna hafta go watch the clip on u-toob that has Hall, Allen and the dreanged brother, played by christopher Walken(see photo)riding in the brothers Porsche. Public Radio did a review of House of Dynamite, new on Netflix. A modern day theme of nuclear attack on the US. I thought it was good, but jot great. Definitely worth watching.

The NYT had a feature titled 10 Old TV Series Every Kid Needs to Watch. I had fun coming up with my own list, although they had some good ones. I did try to find a rerun of Mannix.

You can watch it on Youtube or listen to it through where ever podcast are.(lol) They are taking an episode a week and talking about them, and include guests from various aspects of the show. There were initially some little irritating things, cut I've kept up and am actually enjoying it. It also has been re-watching the shows.

I will definitely check that out. I have been struck by how interesting the show is--I think I am enjoying it much more this time and did not appreciate it fully at the time.

I binged Season 3 of The Diplomat.

Season 3 was strange. The season ended with a cliffhanger as season one and season two had ended, but the middle episodes were not great, although there are certainly some interesting bits. Honestly it seemed like some important clarifying scenes were left out.

No doubt there is a ton of worthless junk on uTube, but I can pick up a couple that I return back to occasionally. One I have enjoyed is Paul Santenello. He travels to out of the way places and does usually an hour long video where he interviews every day people to get a sense of place. He goes to ghettos and high end places. I had friends in the Outer Banks during the recent weather extreme and realized I had no idea of the area. I also recently caught one on Catalina Island, and another on Albuquerque, where I have friends. Some time ago I watched a series on the Amish, THey are not highly polished. He uses a go pro and they are high quality videos and audios. He's a nice man who truly seems to enjoy meeting people. They typically have millions of views. I'm also on the third season of Dark Winds. It's a murder mystery series set in the four corners area with Navajo tribal police doing the investigations, after the Tony Hillerman novels.. For Hollywood it's fairly realistic and includes some traditional Navajo spiritual practices. It's produced by Robert Redford who makes a brief cameo appearance and looked very old. I read an article about Redford, and for a wealthy Hollywood star, seemed like a fairly normal good guy. I'd forgotten about Out of Africa, which was once a favorite of all times.

The last (sniff!) game of the World Series.

The new Frankenstein movie on Netflix is absolutely magnificent (with the caveat that it is also quite gory)! Now I have to read the book again, because it's been quite a few decades.

Really odd sci-fi on HBO Max called Pluribus. About a genetic change acquired from outer space that turns all humans into one mind. They are all kind and helpful but know each other's thoughts. The primary character however did not get the genetic change along with a few other humans world-wide so she is slowly going crazy trying to interact with all these altered humans.
