    'The History of Simple Living'

Here's an interesting article entitled 'The History of Simple Living' (by Roman Krznaric, syndicated from Yes Magazine, Mar 14, 2014). In it, he briefly surveys the idea of simple living from the Greeks to the 21st century. Our old friends Elgin, Schumacher, and Robin/Dominguez make an appearance. It seems we are following in a long tradition.

I especially like the idea of re-defining 'luxury' to mean things other than material goods, such as "luxury was not sleeping on a soft mattress but having the time and energy to work for social change". I'll try to keep this in mind when lamenting that I haven't splurged on a good meal out in ages (but have had time to wander along the park-side most days).

    My thoughts as well.
As Cicero said, “Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”

Thanks! I just ordered his book "How Should We Live? Great Ideas for Everyday Life" from my library system.
