DH and I have such different tastes in movies that it is hard to pick one we both want to see. We tried The Internship Friday. Our mistake was that my DH didn't look at which version he put on and it turned out to be the unrated version. The one thing we agree on is that we don't like raunchy. lol By the time we realized the mistake, we were too far into the movie to start over with the theatrical verson. Anyway, it had it's moments and it had potential to be better. But it turned out to be pretty formulaic. Loser(s) grow and change and along the way touch other peoples lives. The two leads added up to one Bill Murray we thought.

Last weekend we watched "Sarah's Key" and "The Lunchbox". the first one was heavy and the second one was lighter. We liked both of them. Both of them were pretty much foreign films (sometimes spoke French in one, sometimes spoke Indian in the other).
Last night we watched "The Judge". It was hard to find in Redbox around here, but I finally got it. It has Duvall and Robert Downey, Jr in it. Good acting, but I didn't really care for it. I thought the personalities of those 2 (in their characters) were too inconsistent. Wouldn't want to watch it again.

I watched The Lunchbox a few weeks ago! It was a nice little film but nothing great. Mainly I liked it for the peek into middle class Indian culture. Those lunch box delivery guys are amazing. And what a deal--your at-home wife makes your lunch and has it delivered to you at your office.

I have a littlbittyrule, based upon my littlebittybit of studying serial movie watchers. The deal is, the more mooovees you sit and watch, and the longer you do it, the more jaded and hard to please the moooveee watcher becomes. They start mentally rating moooovveees with "mehs", instead of Stars. Even that online rating system uses "Rotten Tomatoes", because the reviewers are also jaded from overwatching. For example, you kids are asked: "Well, how did you like the latest Meryl Streep Film?" Your response is: "I give it a solid four-and-a-half Mehs". But, they don't even recognize this syndrome in themselves, and their fellow moooovvveee-watchers and SO's are certainly not going to vouch for me on this subject, to protect themselves from the moviewatcher's rage. See? More Mooovveees=less satisfaction; and so, the usual response is: More Movvveees! When in fact they really should cut back on mooovvvees., to increase satisfaction. See? Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.

Packy: I think there is some truth in that. I haven't gone to see a movie at the theater for at least 15 years, and I only occasionally see a movie on DVD. So when I do see a movie, it feels like a special occasion and I'm pleased more often than not.

We watched "Something the Lord Made" with Alan Rickman and Mos Def. It's a true story about the cardiac surgeon, Alfred Blalock and his black assistant, Viven Thomas and how they invented the Blalock-Taussig shunt for babies with heart defects.
Since Thomas was black, had no education, plus Blalock was fairly self-absorbed, he got very little credit for the invention, although he was a major contributor. It was interesting.

I don't watch many movies in general, but I am looking forward to the sequel to "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".

CathyA, I watched "Something the Lord Made" when my sil's sister found out that the baby she was expecting had Down's Syndrome and a major heart defect. It is a truly outstanding movie, with a troubling look at race relations during the Depression. Even though I knew how it would play out, it was disturbing to me to actually hear the words and see the things that happened. But when you think of all the heart defects that can be surgically corrected now, and how there was no pediatric cardiology surgery untill less than a century ago, it is just so amazing.

Just saw "The Kingsmen" with Colin Firth. To me it had plenty of stuff that I used to like in the older Bond movies: fun gadgets, major characters sharply dressed, subtle wit, and some original villain types. Definitely some over the top stuff, but everyone looked like they were in on the joke but enjoying it too.
