Yes on the upcoding, you might google it for some of the stories. A Dr. is a salesman as well, selling his services.

May I say that if our esteemed Senators, Congressmen and President had to utilize the health care system the rest of us endure, I think it would be improved on quickly. The people that legislated this don't tend to use the system. Am I right on that comment? Or, they should stop listening to lobbyists of the insurance company and make it affordable and accessible for working folks. This rots.

I think this is terrible, that you get charged for answering a question the dr. asked. In future, I would refuse to answer questions, on the grounds that the extra charges will not be covered by insurance. I would answer questions at an appointment made just for that issue. It may be not unusual, but I find it unconscionable that a dr. would participate in such a thing!

If you are trying to blame the ACA for this, I don't see how it follows.

Read the WHOLE thing. The ACA only plays a PART. FOR PROFIT, means greed plays a part. When you have a captive audience, who is required to spend money with your industry, that stops one of the checks and balances of choice, as it becomes a more common practice.
IMHO, if we are going to have universal health care, then it should be universal (no government exemptions) and not for profit (which does take out reasons for people to become Doctors).

Gotta agree with that. Mandated health insurance means these companies are guaranteed an income, which is already generous concept, and it for god's sake ought to be enough already. The idea of finding sneaky loopholes to squeeze even more money out of people for basic health service discussions is unconscionable.

yea really, I mean the insurance companies are what they are, and we know what they are. But why does the doctor go along? I hope the OP is free to choose another doctor next time.

Here is the other confusion I had over the conversation with the Customer Service Rep. She could read the notes made by the DR during the visit. I thought that information was confidential? Based on that conversation, I was charged for an office visit. It's not anyone's concern what we discussed IMHO. This is nuts to me. Absolutely nuts. I intend to refuse to pay and will appeal every time, every which way I can. Unless folks make a big noise, nothing will be done.

I wonder if Consumer Reports already covered this topic. And, a bigger lobby that might be in favor of making a stink is AARP. Somebody bigger has to raise more awareness and say no.
