I took Alan's comment "LOL, well played Pacman. See ya in a week" to mean that Packy was being banned from the Forums for a week. I don't mind Packy and I do enjoy some of his posts. That said, he does clearly offend many and we don't really need anyone driving people away from the Forums. I would appeal to Packy as an obviously intelligent person to try to be a bit less abrasive, especially toward those who find him disturbing.

Personally, I don't find hammering on stereotypes to be witty or amusing. It certainly doesn't advance any discussion.

If the stereotypes were about certain races, religions, or ethnicities, would you still be finding him witty or amusing? It is only witty because he targets women in their 50s who apparently go to a lot of mooooveeees and eat a lot of pizza with cheeeeeeeze? If he was, for example, picking on black people and continually using fried chicken and watermelon references, would that be fine with you? Is he witty or amusing because he's not targeting YOUR specific demographic?

He is picking on my demographic, as noted above. "Punching up," so to speak.

I don't think many of you got my point so I will make it simple - if you don't care for a poster like Packy then simply IGNORE him, don't engage him in conversation, hurling insults his way, ramping up the discord, then whining to Alan to fix it for you. You're an adult and you can fix the problem yourself by simply IGNORING...

And yes, you can disagree with Alan, but please don't be rude to him like one poster who called him snarky a couple days ago. Alan could shut this place down tomorrow if he wanted to. He does everything here from technical to funding and modding, he deserves our respect...

I have found that when he is serious, he has very good, reasonable things to say. I don't know why he feels the need to constantly be so silly. It really does take away from, and give less credibility to, the good stuff he has to say.
I have noticed that many people around here can tolerate a lot of funkiness from various people. That's usually a good trait to have, but then there are some of us who tire of it more quickly than others. I have to wonder why he does it.

    Yes please. Agreed!

for me, some behaviors just become boring. Giant walls of text about none sense are easy to ignore because my eyes just do not want to wade through the wall. It,s just more blah blah blah.

Silly gets wearisome. If I peruse and find a comment silly beyond reason I just ignore the whole comment even though there might be some useful information buried somewhere therein.

Absolutely, boring and verbose comments turn into nonesense and I end up ignoring the whole thing. I usually just check into subjects that I might learn something from. Not sure why I even opened up this thread....curious and nosey I guess because I have nothing concrete to add and I've not got anything constructive from it. Oh well....

    don't leave.

I mostly just skim right over Packy's posts because it's mostly sillyness and walls of text. Though, I mostly agree with him when there's a serious point buried in there. On what topic? Oh that long distance vacations are not in any sense simple. That home decorating can easily (super super easily) become consumerism - because it is dissatisfaction with what you have - it's not enough for things to be functional - a lamp, a chair, whatever. But it has to be pretty too, if you are in "decorator mindset". But maybe functional ought to be enough. Oh and that pizza isn't health food (but really very little out of the industrial food system is healthy, things made from scratch are best - if you make pizza from scratch and have no problems with gluten, wheat, or dairy then bon appetit! And if there's free veggie pizza of any kind in the breakroom at work, there's small likelihood of me resisting regardless, health food or no).

Even the few misogynistic posts just came out more sad and pathetic than anything else. But I will call out misogyny when I see it.

Oh and Alan banned Packy for a week probably (though I don't' speak for Alan) because Packy was directly taunting another poster (rather than just the usual walls of gibberish).
