Well, I binge watched The Queen's Gambit. Loved it. I loved Anya Taylor-Joy's performance, as well as the themes of the story. Superb. I'm sure this series has been brought up before here. I'm late to the party, but really one of the best limited series I've seen.

The Queen’s Gambit was magnificent! it was the best thing I watched that year it came out.
I have a story about this: when The Queen’s Gambit book came out what, 35 years ago? Something like that. I read it and immediately bought a copy of the novel, I loved it that much.. You have to understand that I did not buy novels in those days. I just didn’t buy books because I worked in libraries and I refused to be carting those things around when I moved. But I love this book so much, and it was written in a way that lent itself to cinema easily.
So I’m very pleased with the production, and I’m looking forward to watching it again someday. I put my first edition, first printing copy of The Queen’s Gambit book up on eBay and it sold immediately for $25 which isn’t that much,I probably could’ve gotten more, I just didn’t know. It was good timing because I was selling my book collection and this production had just come out on TV.
the character was wonderful, I love that actress. I like the way the stepmother character was written in the book and they portrayed her that way in the TV series. It was an interesting relationship she had with the girl, supportive but not cloying. The alcohol dependency was very interesting as well.
Yeah, when I learned it was based on a novel, I was almost sad I had seen the series first, because of the complexities of the characters and internal dialogue that usually comes out much stronger in a book. But I think the series did an outstanding job. I also loved the character of the mother. Of course, I can look back and draw from my own life, with a mother left without a husband, and alcohol coming in to the picture, and being a strong woman in a man's world. But all the characters were elevated by the author/screenwriter/director. It was really a tour de force.

This discussion reminds me that I decided not to watch the film ( or is it tv?) version, recently released, of A Gentleman in Moscow.
Everyone has read this book but for me!
I do not watch much on teevee but baseball now that the season is on.
However, I felt moved to suggest we start a new thread---it bugs me that it's entitled "...2023." Sorry, it bugs me.
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!
We just watched Season 1 of The Diplomat. Loved it! If you enjoyed The West Wing, you'll like this Netflix series. Fast-paced, humorous, good character development and a fascinating international plot.
