    Mexican healthcare.

We’re on vacation in Mexico City. SO couldn’t find his glasses at home so we’re at the optician. $20 for an exam including lenses. $22 for frames. And they will be ready in 2 hours. And it was a ten minute walk in appointment a block from our hotel.

It was amusing watching an eye exam in Spanish. ‘Uno? Or dos? Uno? Or dos?’

WOW! This is less than I pay in Algodones for glasses! You are getting a good deal here. Now maybe some of you can see why I am so into offshoring medical, dental, and optical to Mexico - given how close I am to Mexico I almost consider it a crime to not offshore - by paying US prices all we are doing is letting the nightmare of US health care costs continue on with no opposition. No can do in my case.

Curious as to what your SO thinks of his glasses? Rob

Another question: What's your take on safety in Mexico City? Are you staying in Historico Central, Condessa, Zona Rosa, or ? Rob

We’re in the historical Centro. Spent the afternoon at the templo mayor museum. Daytime it seems perfectly safe. Tons of people out and about. Lots of cops. We’re back at the hotel by 9 last night. There were still enough people out that it felt safe but things were closing up.

The glasses are great. They look decent and he can see fine with them.

Will you have a chance to visit the Anthropology Museum? Have you ridden the subway, if so, what do you think of it? Will you get the chance to visit Chapultepec Park?

Glad the glasses worked out well! Mucho respect to you for braving Mexico City. I have been wanting to for some time but I also know how I am about huge cities - too much too fast produces sensory overload. I love Guadalajara for this reason. Rob

We’re planning to take the subway out to the anthropology museum today.

Funny you should mention crowds. Yesterday there was a big festival going on in the centro historico. It was crowded like Times Square on new years. With a bunch of streets blocked off to traffic etc. it was fun because there was a really cool sculpture display put on by the Popular Art Museum and food trucks for lunch. SO was pretty overwhelmed by the crowds so hopefully he’ll enjoy today better. Unfortunately Chapultepec park will have to wait for another trip for us. We leave for peurto Vallarta tomorrow.

Regarding the subway it turns out that Mexico City uses the same transit app that the transit systems in the north bay at home use!
