okay-----i was thinkin' about getting you kids organized on a group vacation trip ta go on up K2. Yup. (see photo) but yeah---it is scaaaaarry, due to the steepness and everything. plus--icy cold the whole time. so anyway---ya might wanna get your affairs in order before we leave; after all, something like one out of every 5 adventurers don't come back alive. Ha. one guy from russia climbed it without supplemental oxygen. (see photo) but yeah----don't be that guy. anyway, let mee know if you are "in" on this trip. yup. hope that helps you some.2024-05-16 (6).jpg2024-05-16 (3).jpg
For some reason, I developed an incredible fascination with Everest and mountain climbing after reading Krakauer's Into Thin Air, probably my favorite non-fiction read of all times. It's kind of funny, because I will always seek the route with the least amount of uphill terrain when we go for walks in the woods, and I don't particularly like to be cold, so my participation in these climbs will always be vicarious from the warmth of home. Anyway, I read Boukreev's book quite awhile ago and remember his death. I'm afraid you'll have to go to K2 without me.
okay--yah, it's good you read those books, too, RR. so anyway---the takeaway is, here you had semi-wealthy people tryinta waste their precious life resources, doin' somethin' scaaaary, DANGEROUS & therefore--stoopid, just on account of what? prestige? not sure what. but yeah---all that krakauer stuff is very good social studies reading, which is as you kids oughtta know by now is my interest area. yup.
