okay---spent some time getting as much rust offa that 58 Packard crankshaft as I could spare. Then, Monday, I loaded it up and took 'er north of town ta see about getting it re-machined. Guy says yeah, in a week or two. So, that'll be fine. Meantime, I can clean up some more parts and other stuff. How do ya like that?

okay----placed an order with a company which had a set of '58 Packard valve springs. He thought he had a set, but they were waaaay back in the warehouse, where they been sitting on a shelf, covered in dust, for years. But yeah---he made me a deal on 'em, just ta get rid of 'em. Lucky Me---they don't sell those at wall-mart. nope.

okay---gonna avail myself of a company here that does cryogenic freezing on motor parts. Probly have them freeze my cam & lifters, after they get back from being reground. Yup.

okay-----been looking over the cam cores that I've got; had to research them, because they are all different. Two of them cam with an old, junk President I bought, that was disassembled. The third, was one I pulled out of a 62 Hock over at a backyard about a mile from me. Well, one has small lobes and a 17th that is a fuel pump lobe. This was done in the early mid-50's. Okay, then there's the Hock cam--not a lot of wear, but it has small lobes(no 17th, tho). Well, the third one has fatter lobes, an Alcoa all-aluminum timing gear, and the number 1557663 cast into it. Hmmm. I looked it up, and that is the R-series cam setup! That timing gear can be reused, and the cam is ideal for regrinding, due to the extra material. So, yeah--I'm in luck. Actually, all three cams cam be reground, and I have sets of followers for each one. Dude, how do ya like that?

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about, but the phrase "old junk President" struck a nerve for some reason . . .

Well, the old junk President is a 58 Stude-O-Baker President sedan, that someone disassembled, and let the project lapse and sold to another individual that I bought it from. See? But yeah----many parts interchange between 58 Presidents(top O' the line for Stude-O-baker), and 58 Packards. Yup. It also came with a 1960 259 engine, that had a Delco distributor, so that was a plus. Lots and lots of useable bits n pieces, including the windshield, door glass, and rear bumper, etc. . Yup. Hope that helps you some. Dudes, thank mee.
