    February frugals

My Prime membership expires at the end of the month, but I’m not renewing. Danged convenient, but dealing with all the boxes is a pain. I had a ton from when I was laid up with Covid and otherwise sick in January. Walmart is too huge for my bad knees, but I have a nice Target nearby and I’ll go back to shopping there. A lot of the prices are close to Amazon, when I checked on Target’s app.

I took lunch to work all this week.

I returned two purchases for credit - BEFORE they got lost in the shuffle, even!

I am trying to lower the $303 I was billed for a nurse practitioner in my doctor’s office to look in my ear and say, “Yes, it’s an ear infection” and prescribe an antibiotic. Seems about twice what it should be? No labs or other tests were run and I paid the pharmacy separately for the drug.

I’ve returned clothes I ordered from two places. Comes out to about $200. Nothing fit. First time ordering from both. I’ll stick to known places in the future.

Meet two diving friends at Panera. They both got lunch at $20 each. I spent only $7 on a gorgeous blueberry scone and a large coffee.

Have an event at the temple today and a handout was emailed. Instead of printing it out, I downloaded it and loaded it into Kindle. I'll use my tablet to read it during the ceremony. No printer paper or ink used! This is a little thing, but I need to start doing it more often.

I did the same thing with my church’s annual meeting report booklet, which was about 20 pages, on my iPad. On the past I’ve just had it on my iPhone phone but much easier to read on iPad.

You probably know this, but you can get free shipping from Amazon from some dealers without Prime membership. you can get it if you combine purchases and meet their ?$25? Threshold.

I have a prime membership primarily for streaming services. Sure I buy stuff via Amazon but the shipping prices really don’t enter much into it for me.

Yes, I’m aware. I had Prime for the shipping, not streaming. I’ve found out that Target had pretty similar prices on a lot of stuff. The boxes are just getting to be too much to deal with on the deliveries.

Just filed fed and state tax returns. Owed $549 to feds (will pay by direct debit in March) and $4 to the state. I filed for FREE. I've used Turbo Tax for years, but even though I have a simple return, there was no free option. Paid about $40 for both fed and state for the past few years. Done with that! Went to https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/browse-all-offers/ and saw the free options. You can free file if your AGI is $79K or under. FreeTax USA was recommended to me by a bunch of people, but IRS website shows AGI has to be $45K or under to use FreeTax USA. I went to their website and I was able to file free without issue even though my AGI is over $45K (it's under $79K). I didn't pay the $15 for state return since IL has its own free website for filing state returns.
