IL: I'm no expert on library structure and governance, but to the best of my knowledge, it is a single organization under our town governance. I know it belongs to a network of libraries who share books (NOBLE, North of Boston Lending Exchange), but I think that's a different matter. Apparently she was able to grab so much money because she committed fraud with GE's matching of (fake in this case) employee charitable contributions. There is a large GE plant in Lynn, the next town over, and I'm sure that many GE employees live in Saugus. If I believed in hell, I would expect an especially warm place for those who steal from such a worthy cause as local libraries.

I wonder if she can possibly pay that money back. Are court judgments dischargeable by bankruptcy? They probably are not.

If your library was part of a larger system in that case there would be more professional standards applied to activities, but I suppose that wouldn’t preclude someone who is hell-bent on stealing.

Our finance officer was a stickler and no one got away with anything. We did have a well publicized personnel Oopsie when someone was shown to have falsified work records for years, but that wasn’t part of the finance officer’s purview.

Stumbled across a movie called Last Words last night on PlutoTV. Missed maybe the first 5 minutes, but managed to get the gist of it. Very strange but also very interesting. Theme was apocalyptic end of the earth due to climate control and resulting human actions, but with a very unique perspective. Anyway, won't say any more in case someone may want to watch it. I guess, overall, I'll say that I liked it.

Sounds interesting! I'll check it out.

We wound up watching two movies about missing kids. The most recent one was The Snowgirl (La Chica de Nieve). it's a Spanish movie, dubbed in English, but have you noticed that dubbing is really good these days? Is AI helping with that at all? You can barely tell it's dubbed. Anyway, this is a Netflix movie, a limited series, and it was really good.
