    Seasonal Decor

My weakness is seasonal decor. I decorate for every season and holiday. Not a lot (except Christmas) and only in the kitchen and living room. Last week, I went on a bit of a buying spree at Michael's and got four rather large porch decor items that I plan on using in the house, not outside. One for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. That means some old stuff will have to go.... maybe. I don't have a lot of Thanksgiving decor so adding one thing won't be a problem. Same with Valentine's Day. Halloween and definitely Christmas decor will have to be looked at with a more ruthless eye. Not looking forward to that.

I blame my husband. I found this wooden Santa online at Kirklands that was on clearance (normally $80 but selling for $20) but no stores nearby had it. Showed my husband the link and told him how disappointed I was that it was so cheap and I couldn't get it. (I have an Uncle Sam one similar and both he and I love it). Husband told me to look around and see if I could find anything similar. I stumbled upon the Glitzhome brand from Michaels and boy oh boy was that a mistake! So many things I wanted. I found a Santa and also a turkey that I really wanted and husband said "go for it!". I should have stopped there but didn't. Looked around more and found something for Halloween and Valentine's Day which I also got. Everything was marked down so it's not like I spent a lot of money on anything but I also didn't need it.

Ugh! I know better than to go "looking" when it comes to seasonal decor. But I won't be too hard on myself because I know I keep the same decor for years and years and these new things will get plenty of use and enjoyment.

So glad you found something that both you and dh enjoy and agree upon!!

I'm not one for seasonal decorations. I'll do the simple tree, wreath, stockings, etc type stuff for Christmas, but that's about it. Used to do some outside stuff for Halloween when the kids were little, but that has long since passed. LOL.

This year, in the effort to spend my assets before I die, I am hiring one of those Christmas Light installation services. We shall see how that turns out.

When my boys were little, I'd only decorate for Halloween and Christmas. It wasn't until we completely upgraded our house a few years back (new carpet, paint, furniture, etc) that I got the decorating bug. Boys are now 20 and 23 so I'm probably only really decorating for myself at this point but I don't have a lot of "every day" decor so when the house isn't decorated for a season or holiday, it looks really bare.

Ugh! Don't get me started on how much I HATE doing the outside Christmas lights. Never fails that either some of the strands don't work (they did when they were put away) or I can't get them put up correctly so that everything I want lights on has lights on it. Or worse yet, I finally get everything looking the way I want it and half the strand of lights suddenly stops working a day or two after I get them up.

I love looking at other people's lights but am very minimalistic on my own--I have two strings of blue lights that I loop over whatever fence I have at the moment and call it a day. I bought them about 15 years ago on sale at a hardware store in upstate NY that I used to love and now no longer exists. But my lights are still going strong.

Indoors I have my artificial tree that is about 12 years old. I try to get a new ornament at a craft show or online, something horse related if I can, because I keep giving my ornaments to my grandddaughters so it's about an even trade. I let them pick something off the tree.

I think it's neat there you have a "go for it" husband. My husband is the same way when I want to buy something, and I really appreciate that after being married to a cheapskate first husband--he actually stole money from me, forged my name, so I guess that's worse than being a cheapskate.

I think your new purchases sound great.

The only reason why he's a "go for it" husband is because he tends to buy WAY more expensive stuff like a Mustang over his lunch break. His "hobbies" are way more expensive than my seasonal decor addiction.

I got a single strand of outdoor solar christmas lights about two years ago and absolutely love them! I put them up and they either get enough sun to come on or they don't. No plugs across the porch, etc. They we have a spot to put the christmas tree in the living room that is right in front of a window, so the tree lights will also show outside as some additional lighting. Easly and simple.

I might buy one if those dinky pumpkins at the grocery store for a fall decoration on my kitchen breakfast bar - big counter between LR and kitchen. At Christmas, I have a 2ft tabletop tree I got years ago at Target. I gave two strings of small LED lights that are battery operated. I even have a star and a sparkly tree skirt. Wee ornaments. It works very well.
