I am wondering how many books you have overall? Catherine talked about purging her books before her move, and said something like a hundred, and I was thinking I should count mine, and see if it is a reasonable number. It is very hard for me to get rid of books. And I hate reading them on Kindle, unfortunately.

I have a small pile from my condo that stores the majority of what’s left of my book collection, but I haven’t been able to swing by the bookshop to drop them off. I could take them to Goodwill I suppose but they are a little bit too nice for a Goodwill.

I think I might need to count mine and see what the number is and see how many I want it to be.

Tybee: I did a massive book purge a few years ago, and I think the count afterwards was something like 500 perhaps, but I could be wrong. I'll have to do an updated count. I don't have a target number, rather I have a certain amount of real estate allocated for books and they cannot proliferate beyond that point.

Thanks. I just went and counted and I think I am at about 750 or so and would like to be more like 400, I think, plus not have any stashed places like attic and barn.

Which means seeing if I can get rid of one or every two or so. That's about all this house can take.

I counted, and I have 567 books, including 10 that have been culled which I just need to get out of the house and on their way. I'm pretty confident that I could get rid of another 20 or so without much trouble. I like to have a little bit of available shelf space for new books I fall in love with and feel compelled to hold onto.

Maybe I will shoot for never any more than 500, and then if we have to downsize to assisted living or something we can cut it again.

Here's my plan--cut two books a day between now and Christmas-- that is almost two hundred books and gets me down to a better total number.

When I was weeding books I found that I ran into a few that irritated me, and I thought to myself I never really liked you book, so now I’m getting rid of you bye-bye

and then there were the books I thought I “should “have because they fit into my collecting parameters, but yet I did not really like them.

edited to make this make sense, “weeding”. Not “reading.”

I took a box of big books to the local recycling center today. They actually send books to a brick and mortar non-profit used book store that sorts them for either resale or recycle. And also the accumulation of Amazon carboard boxes from several months of shipments. I have a lot of favorite books I will probably never re-read, but they look good on the book shelf and maybe a reminder of having read them.
