    Anyone here use a breadmaker?

I am thinking about getting one but not sure if it worth the expense.

I found I never bothered to use mine, and gave it away.

The NY Times "no-knead" recipe/method work fine for me, and require in some ways far less fuss than the breadmaker.

First of all, check the thrift stores. There was a time when every thrift store had three of them on the shelf tho I have not noticed that lately. I wonder if bread machines are so passé that they have cycled out of the thrift stores.

DH used his bread machine every week for several years, but has not used it for many years now. he was using it well past the time when Brad machines were popular. When he used said he liked it.

I bought one and we used it in the winter, but my preference is to mix it in the breadmaker and then take it out and cook it in a breadpan. We have a cuisinart model.
Now that it's getting cold we will fire it up again, but I think I'll pull it out before baking. The loafs just look better and rise better.

We bought one about a decade ago and used it enthusiastically for a while but it eventually joined the George Forman grill and a few other similar items out in the garage.

I bought one at a yard sale years ago, and it gets used intermittently. I like it well enough to keep it, but not well enough to keep it in the kitchen (which has very little space). I love the bread it makes a little too much.

I am also thinking about just buying a cast iron loaf pan and making sourdough again.

We use a Mother Earth News recipe with a regular dutch oven for our sourdough bread. It makes a large boule.

Thanks, Tybee. I'm going to try the technique in the recipe with my sourdough bread.

Edited to add: Forgot to response to the original topic. lol. I loved bread machines when they first came out. I used one all the time. However, when I stopped buying yeast and started using a sourdough starter, I never figured out how to do the bread up in the machine. Probably could have eventually done it, but I gave up pretty easily. lol
