    Cosmic Colonialism

    https://www.nature.com/articles/d415...box=1729182953

Saw this piece in Nature chiding the scientific community for referring to conferences held annually in the Fall as “fall conferences”. It fails to be inclusive of the Southern Hemisphere. It made me think of the people who claim I shouldn’t call myself an “American” because a couple of continents share that name. When various despots blame America for their problems, does anyone hold Peruvians responsible?

Who are these imperialists who decreed the Prime Meridian runs though Greenwich instead of Haiphong or Harare? Who named the planets after Western mythical figures? I think there’s a rich vein of indignation to be mined here in the coming years.

All my garden clubs and plant societies have their “Fall meeting” as well as the “spring meeting.”

I am so sad that I cannot effectively chastise these groups for their imperialistic nomenclature. The reason I cannot shame them is because these groups are full of old people who
    1) wouldn’t understand my virtue signaling point
    2) wouldnt give a damn about it anyway

    Thank god for Boomers.

This reminds me of my visit to the city of St. Louis’ public library website where I discovered their latest pandering notice. It thanks the indigenous peoples whose land accommodates all of the buildings of the library.

I am so glad to be absent from that working environment. I can only imagine the tediousness of administrative meetings I would have had to endure as this important notice was debated and decided on.

“We thank the people who drove the previous inhabitants off this land in order that our ancestors could take it for themselves later.”

Sort of like getting a thank you note from a burglar, isn’t it?

Well, though it was done by committee, I blame George Biddell Airy and his amazing telescope, which is still sitting there.

okay---tell you what---as a true American, I think "We" shoulda kept everything "We" conquered, in the last couple wars. Europe, Africa, Asia. Kept Greenland, for rescuing Denmark, too. Yup. Why go ta all the trouble ta pay for ( with lives & munitions)any territory you don't intend to keep? That said, don't bother with a rebuttal; I know I'm right and my mind is made up. Thankk Mee.
