    Ideas for cheaper nutritious food

We are all seeing higher prices. Share your ideas for low priced food sourced in America when possible. I use as much organic as I can find. When lentils of all colors, wild rice, oatmeal and dry beans are on sale I stock up.

I eat organic steel cut non gmo cereal for breakfast. Some organic fruit, nutmeg, cinnamon and flax seed.

brown lentil soup made with wild rice, brown lentils, onion, celery, carrots, spinach and basil and rosemary.

hard boiled egg and greens, beans, other veggies salad.

homemade whole wheat sourdough bread, English muffins and so on. Takes a bit to perfect but oh, so worth it

    my homemade yogurt.

you also can easily sprout seeds. I have curious cats so one thing I don’t do.

I'm a big fan of beans and grow a heirloom pole variety in my garden for dried beans in the winter soups. They are pretty easy to grow. My local store has a few unusual varieties in their bulk bins besides the usual pinto and navy types including some organic. I have belonged to the Ranch Gordo bean club for small farm heirloom varieties that you don't see in stores. They are a little special and run $7 or $8 a pound dried, but cook up to a few times more in weight. Some come from Mexico, though. I've seen the Rancho Gordo beans in a few specialty stores. I wish I liked lentils more, but do go for spilt peas.

my method is a standard technique like this

    https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-mak...-kitchn-125070

at the end of the instructions there is a link how to make it Greek yogurt. I double this and use small mason jars to incubate. I don’t have a yogurt maker.

allrecipes has lots of recipes I really like. Here is a good quinoa and bean one.

I use half the hot type spices in the first batch I make because some people like it really hot. I don’t. I read through the reviews too. Lots of good ideas.

I also make bean chili, split pea soup, and sweet potatoes on a regular basis.

I'm reading a SciFi novel where all the less wealthy people eat Gunk, which is algae fortified with nutrients and flavorings.
