New (to me) YouTube finance guru

I definitely have been a listener of Dave Ramsey, and iris lilies turned me on to Ramit Sethi, but I just came across a young guy (probably Millennial) called Caleb Hammer. I don't know what got me to click on this YouTube.. I was intrigued with the headline that he was talking to a 50 year old who had 400,000 in debt--none of it "good" debt, like a mortgage.

Watch a little of the video and let me know what you think of his style. I have to say, I watched the whole thing--almost 2 hours of the time he spent gobsmacked over this poor woman's situation. He's kind of like a young DR, because he doesn't mince words.

I lasted < 20 seconds before his vocal affectations became too annoying.

True. He is pretty screechy. But I couldn't look away from the train wreck.

Listening right now. I always like to see what they are earning and what they are spending--she has a great income and I can't believe she has 400k in debt but I haven't heard yet what it is. She just said her 23 year old daughter is spending her money at Target, that's as far as I have gotten.

If you get bored, scroll to the end to see his advice. I wanted to see what kind of a plan he recommended.

He actually had one of Dave Ramsey's guys on there, and they debated one thing. I have never seen a full episode, but one short where the guy's whole retirement strategy was investing in startups, hoping one would hit big, while spending way more then he made.

yep, this guy shouldn’t put himself up in front of YouTube as a talker.

sorry Catherine, I just couldn’t listen, too unpolished.

I'm working my way through it while grading--this is fascinating, to see the behaviors that led to the debt, and connecting them, and she's fifty. I see her doing some of the things I did--digging the rest of the family out of debt or problems, over functioning for the family. It's worth watching. I love her calm demeanor. I'd be sobbing.

I couldn't believe how she held it together.. so poised in the face of, frankly, ridicule and judgement. I guess that's one thing I don't like about this guy.. Even DR could tell someone they were "doing stupid" with a touch of empathy. I think this guy is too young for that perspective.

IL, he does have an unprofessional style, but I think that's the social media style of the young.
