Frugal entertainment - community college music programs

My church choir director (I’m in the choir) is an instructor at a local community college. She plays a woodwind instrument herself. Her program has three concerts a school year, and she also plays in other groups, such as occasionally with other faculty. I was at a concert last night that featured a choral group as well as some faculty from her school. It was very good and free for me, since she invited a few of us and paid for our $20 tickets.

But the community college concerts are free. The Halloween one is very good.

That's great! What a deal My cheap entertainment for the weekend was DH was the technical director for a community theatre play in town. It was a decent play--he of course, didn't have to pay, and my ticket was $20, so that wasn't bad for a night out.

I’m not one for plays, but I love music, so it’s well worth the 45 min drive. They’re all out near office.

I've been going to the local high school spring and fall plays. They are quite good. We have 10 high schools in the county, one has a specific Arts curriculum andI've been to afew of their plays. Every high school does two plays a year, also concerts and chorus. I am too lazy to do all of them, but I love seeing the kids do so well!!!

That's a great idea! Plus the community support is appreciated, I'm sure.
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

I attend performances of our little community theater. They do charge $10 but that’s not much. Most of the performances I attend are variety shows starring children in the community. I’m not a fan of musical theater, but I’ll probably be attending Camelot next fall. The star of the show is staying at our house because the local community puts up actors so they don’t have to pay hotel bills.

Camelot is one of my very favorites. DH and I saw a revival at Lincoln Center last year and we rated it OK. I love that you're hosting a cast member! So nice of you!

when our guest room is finished next year we can host another one.

would these people earn Actors Equity points? It seems like prying to ask her about that and pay.

Their fall production takes place in October when our entire tiny town hosts Octoberfest and Air bnb prices are insane. The theater has to bring in outside talent because we don’t have any trained theater people here.

It depends. If it's community theatre, very doubtful. If they are with a traveling or regional Equity company, probably.

Went to dinner at the Elk’s and listened to a local music group. Wouldn’t eat there again but loved the band. It was pass the hat…..
