    May Frugals

So, we've not been extra-frugal lately, what with actually taking a long trip up east last month and all. And I've purchased a battery operated vacuum (Ryobi, we have lots of their stuff), and a couple pairs of clam-diggers. BUT I've been needing a new tin of black past shoe polish, and scored a nearly new one from a free box at a yard sale yesterday. Also got quite a few plants at our local Master Gardener's sale - better prices than the nursery and supports a good group of people. So a win for the day, at least. And then we blew all our savings and more at the local ice cream store, lol.

I received a $100 Amazon gift card (yes, it's legit!) from switching home internet providers. I'll use it for Kindle books.

Was on vacation, so I confess the past week was NOT frugal! But it was fun!

We scour the sales at two local small Kroger stores every week. This week I needed cinnamon for homemade granola. I was going to go to Costco but the size of the container was just too big. On Friday, we stopped for a regular shop at Kroger and found 8 boxes of cinnamon 1.75 ounces each for 56 cents each. They were originally $3.88 than marked to clearance at $1.24 and we got them for 56 cents. Nice that we actually needed and were searching for cinnamon. One box fills a glass spice container, so I filled the two we had and stored the other 6 boxes. I think some cinnamon rolls are in our future too.

I don't think we've been very frugal recently; we've done a bit of stocking up & panic buying. However, I was just looking at my home improvement records. Last year, we spent big bucks on kitchen remodel, front steps/deck replacement, cellar door replacement, stairway railing installation, sump pump replacement, hot water heater replacement.
    This year so far:
Mailbox post replacement - $18 (split cost with neighbor whose box is also on the post)
Bathroom radiator cover - already had all materials on hand
Stained gazebo, bench, & tables - already had all materials on hand
Replaced bathroom fan - paid with a gift card from raffle DH won at last year's craft fair
So we've been pretty frugal on the home improvement front so far!

Been trying to fix my car cd player myself to avoid buying a new radio. It's been broken for 11 years. Bought a car of compressed air and a cleaning cd. Think I will need to buy a new radio but haven't given up yet.

Scored a like-new bread machine for $5 at a yard sale last week. Market Basket had chicken thighs for $0.99/lb, so I stocked the freezer. Also got some more kitchen stuff from clearance racks at less than half price. I think I have been pretty frugal this month.

I think being able to shop at Market Basket is a huge frugal win. We love our local Market Basket!

So true! We like to eat a sandwich or a bowl of haddock chowder there, too, a cheap meal out.
