It has been about 3 years since we saw a large influx of border crossings. We’d go to Mexico and there would be people everywhere. You could also see paths where people were crossing and discarded clothing. This has not been happening since before we moved here full time…

sounds like you don’t trust the numbers from the government, either Biden era or Trump era numbers.

I saw a video today of a child being kidnapped by ice while walking home from school. She is about the age of my granddaughter. The agents kidnap her and put her in a car while an onlooker screams and asks the child for her name.

Apparently this is a technique ICE is using as they then call the parents to pick up the child and then arrest the parents. Allegedly, they call this the Freaky Friday program. This was in Chicago.

Where my children live in a city in Maine, children of immigrants are afraid to go to school.

My partner is an elementary school teacher in the Skagit Valley in Washington. The public school she teaches at is a cool dual-language school - the kids receive half their day’s instruction in Spanish, the other half in English. The immersive program begins in Kindergarten.

ICE has been hassling the school and the families, and many of the Hispanic families are disengaging. The Skagit Valley has had a significant Hispanic population since WWI, and most of those families have been living there for a century.

    Shameful.

I have not checked the numbers for either. I’m relaying to you what I AM seeing.

    What is now happening..

    - Thousands of federal workers who provide critical services across the country are being fired by the current regime. This has NEVER been done during a shutdown! The purpose of decimating our government?

    - Democratic troop pay bill during the shutdown blocked by the GOP!

    - Speaker Johnson keeps House lawmakers away, canceling another week’s session as shutdown drags….. extends recess to Oct 19. Epstein files anyone?

    - Johnson told to say shutdown is 100% Democrats fault when GOP has the house, senate and supreme court. Unbelievable!

    - Shut down websites for dozens of Inspectors General (IGs) that publish hotline numbers where whistleblowers can submit complaints of waste, fraud, and abuse and make reports detailing corruption available to the public. Wonder why?

    - Johnson tells lawmakers to skip townhall meetings with constituents.

Unbelievable to me that people still vote for republicans after all these shenanigans!

I provided the numbers to you in an easy to see chart in post #62.

But carry on with your anecdotal information.

Tariff chaos with China again. Now saying 100% on top of other existing tariffs, effective 11/1. Nothing official yet (executive order or Federal Register Notice).

Don't you have a Canadian parent or grandparent? It is now possible to get dual Canadian citizenship through that path and might be something to look at.

My mother’s family came from Ontario to Michigan in the early 1930s. Illegally! Just crossed the Ambassador Bridge. The last four kids were born in the US and my mother was the youngest. My mother’s father ran off in 1943, when she was less than a year old. Grandmother never went back to Canada as she was afraid she wouldn’t be allowed back into the US. She died in 1960. My mother was in her senior year of high school and moved in with a cousin and her husband.

I’m single and my entire support system is here.
