blueberries are not something I cared about until I had fresh locally grown ones. Oh my God, that’s the world of difference. Until I had the local ones, I thought they were just sour little purple beads.

but red raspberries – I do remember the many decades where I couldn’t buy red raspberries because we had to hoard our money! No red raspberries for iris!

after I retired, I started buying red raspberries whenever I like. sometimes they will be remarkably good out of season, I just never know when they’re going to be really really good or just pretty good, but I do love red raspberries.

I like blackberries more than raspberries, but fresh, both are good. We had a lovely bird-planted blackberry patch in the pasture for years, then one year, the then-current crop of ewes binged and at the whole patch. Briars and all. Following year, they ate off the new shoots as soon as they appeared. That was then end of the blackberries. *sigh* First fresh blueberries I ever had was when scouting w/my parents for bear-hunting sites. Bears love blueberries. I followed bear sign into a big patch of blueberries and they were indescribable! the berries, not the signs. We ate a LOT of blueberries that trip.

Early morning, your memory brought up one of mine: my family & the neighbors used to go every late summer up to the foothills of Mt. St. Helens to pick huckleberries. We were literally hiking through pumice. (Way pre-1980)

The first berry to hit the bottom of your coffee can or bucket made the loneliest sound in the world. Took forever to get even a half can of those lovely berries!
My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far today, I have finished two bags of M&Ms and a chocolate cake. I feel better already!

Love most berries, but raspberries are definitely my favorite. Something about picking berries seems so... primal to me. LOL.

Have to say, for store-bought, the Costco brand frozen blueberry/raspberry/blackberry mix is very tasty!
