    Black Friday sales

It seems like there was a time and something of a movement to boycott Black Friday shopping as sort of a rebellion against consumerism and also to remember the true value of the Holidays. I see REI will follow tradition and close it's doors on Black Friday with their get out side Friday instead promotion. I'm pretty much in on all of that, but I have wondered if times have changed and any anti consumption or rebelling against materialism has faded?

Now, I get the impression that Black Friday as actually a whole month of sales reaching it's pitched peak on real Black Friday. I've actually found some good deal on winter clothing and will rotation out some worn things. I've never shopped on ETSY but discovered a handmade end table to replace a shabby old one, supposedly marked down a lot for "Black Friday". I'm still against over consumption and try to practice it the rest of the year.

I believe the anti-Black Friday was the original "Buy Nothing Day". I'm noticing that "Black Friday" prices are already available, so I don't think I will miss anything by not shopping on Friday. Plus, I will be attending Craft Day at one of my sibling's. I plan to spend the day trying to be creative. LOL

The old style Black Friday fist fights at the stores has gone away. Done in by online shopping.

Nope. That went away mid 2010s. Online shopping means the good deals are before BF.

Our dishwasher died and the new one was labeled a Black Friday sale. It was a good price, for sure.

I still make a point of not doing any retail shopping on Black Friday in honor of Jdimytai Damour, who was trampled to death at a Walmart in NY in 2008. However, this doesn't stop me from participating in Small Business Saturday, and I often take advantage of online promotions (e.g. LL Bean 15% off) if there is something we want or need, so it's probably a wash. Most retailers have gotten smart enough to offer their BF deals on a broader range of days, presumably to cater to those of us who won't shop on BF. We may end up grocery shopping on Friday since our usual day is Wednesday, and no way were were going into a grocery store the day before Thanksgiving.

I am again skipping the driving and shopping on Black Friday. Got a 40% off coupon and did not "need" anything they might have in the store. Still trying to use it up.

Will however drive to exercise since the instructor is making a special effort to have a class for us on Black Friday.

The little boutique retail stores here full of crap no one needs are pushing the “shop local “theme but I don’t need to buy anything. We are buying zero for presents, we just don’t do that. I plan to hand out a few hundred dollars in tips, but that’s it.

We’re doing much the same… also donated to food pantry.
