Trip To Greece

Ok, perhaps making me an entitled tone deaf hypocrite, I am taking a cruise to Greece in about a month. I was shanghaied into this by my MIL, who can't get anyone else to travel with her, showed me some brochures while I was visiting, and then texted me a week later to announce she'd booked us tickets to one I expressed modest interest in. (Not paying my ticket, just booking it for me.) That "we" could always cancel, blah blah, asking forgiveness rather than permission ... me being me, I said oh, um ... well uh ok, let's do this I guess.

(Weird thing, she is Hugely active in protests. Highly informed about our current political situation, and radically left. This compartmentalization is totally bizarre.)

So... does anyone have thoughts. Political thoughts, practical thoughts, Greek thoughts. I've never taken a cruise before. I've done a fair share of world travel, but not for ten years or more. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of being an American out of the country, ugly or not, at this particular moment in history, perhaps especially not in a way that highlights me as well off.

I know I should just put all this aside, I'm going so I might as well be excited.

It's a good place to get dual citizenship. I'd think about it while I was there.

okay------do you have lots of insurance, in case anything bad happens? Also----fun facts: Jen Aniston has Greek ancestry; so does Rita Wilson. There was a mooo--vveee caled: My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but I never sat-n-watched it & never will. Also, I purchased a set of Suntour new-old-stock bar-end levers from a bike shop in Athens on EBay at a fair price. But yeah---have a nice trip and i hope being with a fanaticrat doesn't get on your nerves to an extreme degree. Hope thatt helps you some. Thankk Mee.

Kib. My daughter and son in law live in Corfu, Greece and work remotely for their business in the UK. We visit them at least a a couple of times a year. Lots of cruise ships visit the island. I spent time as a child in Cyprus where my Dad served with the British Army. I also know Crete quite well.

i love the food especially olives and olive oil, cheeses and grills. Some of the wines are pretty good, too.
Hope you have a wonderful time, no advice on cruising though!

Hi, and thanks! The middle of February definitely wasn't my top choice of when to visit, any weather suggestions? Am I likely to encounter a lot of rain? I never associated rain with Greece, every picture I've ever seen it looks, well, Mediterranean. Dry and sunny.

The weather has been bad in the Southern Med. Greece and Malta have been badly hit this winter. BUT the Islands soon recover.

I have been busily learning Homeric Greek the past month or so, which is of strikingly little use when trying to comprehend Modern Greek, so don't do that :-)
